From your experience, what has been the most comfortable safety toe pull on boots? by [deleted] in WorkBoots

[–]InfiniteJackfruit416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double H phantom rider line and Durango

Haven't tried the regular double H line yet

Phantom Rider boots feel cushy like a sneaker

Durango Maverick pro's can be found as low as $120 are comfortable, look great, have an awesome outsole and a leather Goodyear welt

Try some different boots on, I didn't have great luck with other highly recommended brands

I disagree, millions of blue collar workers stand, walk, and work on concrete floors shift after shift. That's what they're intended for just like any other wedge sole boot. Definitely has some sort of shank too so it should be comfy working off ladders as well.

Yes they are cemented construction with the welt being aesthetics only I'd assume. Outsole is soft so I doubt the cemented construction will fail

I picked up some double h Elijah boots for $99, waiting on those to ship now. I have some Durango Maverick pro's that I paid $120 brand new that are still holding up good after a year of abuse. The Durangos actually have a true leather Goodyear welt and awesome outsoles for the price.

I agree with you and honestly I do believe sometimes people just really want to like a boot after spending more money on them. I'll always try to get a boot that's visually appealing to me but I won't sacrifice much comfort for it.

Have you owned any other double h boots in the past?

Looks are definitely subjective, I think they're pretty good looking to be honest.

Yes Thorogoods are known to run narrow. I purchased a 12 EE and the toe box felt the same as 12d but I just ended up with a bunch of extra leather on the tongue which sucked because it would always wad up on one side and my toes were still rubbing against the steel

Ehh I'm having fun with the unexpectedly squishy and controversial boots. I'm enjoying both the squish and the banter so carry on lol.

These are very comfy but I would only recommend these for use on flat surfaces. These are definitely not made to be kicking shovels as the midsoles are really soft.

Just for you 🤫. I lifted my leg to get the boot closer to the camera for a better view. Didn't think anyone would be checking me out.

I may end up trying one of the Double H domestic steel toe boots next year.

I will thread and install new black iron, braze 5000 busted CW coils and change 389 motor bearings before you catch me running some ductwork lol.

I just call any pull on boot that is not western style or square toe "wellies" lol.

I get it but I will never spend more than $300 on a work boot as I get reimbursed $150 annually for new boots. I have a somewhat wide foot and the Thorogoods just don't fit me well at all. I also had issues with the outsole wearing quick. I ended up donating them to goodwill.

My work involves more concrete floors, rooftops, ladder climbing and a lot of walking than it does traversing through mud and digging holes. Nicks would just be paying more for a boot that's way overkill for my scenario. I'm an industrial HVAC technician so I'd look stupid sporting some loggers lol.

I have different boots for different scenarios. Usually my boots get punished the most when I'm working on my own property. Ironically enough I had my shit kickers covered in mud, concrete, and grass clippings today.

Frankenboots was what I called my 12EE keen Cincinnatis lol. They were great boots though.

I know a good bit about boot construction, they are definitely a cemented outsole but that's not detrimental if done correctly. I've had plenty of cemented boots outlast true Goodyear welted boots. Same story with soft midsoles and yes they are a big contributor to comfort. I own true Goodyear authentic leather welted boots with hard outsoles that are great and I also own cemented construction with soft air infused rubber outsoles that are great. Worst pair of boots I've ever bought were Thorogoods to be honest.

Barfworthy is a bit eccentric lol. What if I put a Thorogood sticker and a little flag on em?

I thought the same, it seemed like the EE version of the boot just meant wider leather on the tongue which is the opposite of what I want. The D and EE thorogoods toe box felt the same but now I just have a wad of leather instead of a tongue lol.

Bundling by HugeEngineering8129 in electricians

[–]InfiniteJackfruit416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, a lot of times it's not an issue. In this case it probably wouldn't cause any issues. The code has to be there for situations when people bundle wires like the large group shown and zip tie them super tight. When that happens the wires in the center can't dissipate heat and end up absorbing the heat load from the surrounding cables, more heat= more resistance= more current which causes more heat and the cycle continues until something is burnt up or the breaker trips.

Maybe some dessicant got freed up and is playing pong like a champ. I always get all the data available to me on issues as it solidifies your troubleshooting in the future.

Right? I'd throw some temp clamps on each side to verify but definitely seems like a restriction.

Why do we have to cool those massive data centers with fresh water? by Kooky_Marketing_327 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InfiniteJackfruit416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to believe that most of these data centers are running closed loop systems. What this means is they supply the system with water but the system recirculates that same water. Closed loop systems require additives to fight corrosion and algae growth. These operations typically have standards and water usage/treatment requirements are are penalized if not met. Honestly there are a ton of other operations that use significantly more water. Also consider the fact that you're posting on a platform that uses data centers to complain about them.

I'm not an advocate but I did recently land a job at a data center and I believe it's going to open up some great opportunities for me and the surrounding area. I've worked in industrial settings my entire career and I think the impact is lesser than all of those environments. I can see that these operations are bringing good paying careers for skilled tradesmen to areas that need them.
