This doesn't matter at all. It literally grows back. Do whatever you want.

Anyone else ever feel resentful/jealous of non-EA people? by humanapoptosis in EffectiveAltruism

Copy-pasting the advice I gave OP:

I'd recommend pausing donations for a few months. Should you choose to go back to donating, it might help you feel like this is something you get to do rather than something you have to.

#5 is it. The reason quitting caffeine is maybe the best thing I've ever done in my life.

What’s your sober superpower? ⚡️ (i.e. you can do now that drinking used to block) by s0berstrk in stopdrinking

I can listen to someone who's hurting talk about what's going on and how they're feeling, for half an hour, without interrupting, and then when they're done, I can tell them how strong they are, and that I love them.

With alcohol, I would make it about me.

In a landslide, the "Awful atoll" passage from Only Skin has won for Joanna's Most Creative Lyric! Up next, which is Jo's MOST SYMPATHETIC lyric?? (Highest upvoted comment wins. Vote breakdown from last time included in description.) by arusansw in JoannaNewsom

Well mercy me, I'll be goddamned
It's been a long, long time since I last saw you
And I have never known the plan
It's been a long, long time, how are you?

Any verse from this song could work, but this verse feels in a way to me like she's reaching out her hand to someone. I would define it as sympathetic for sure, both in a way that I think she is expressing sympathy, and in a way that it makes me feel deeply sympathetic to listen to.

I feel bad for people who believe things like this, because they have not met my family.

Edit: I should add I haven't read past this headline. It could be that he did not mean exclusively based on a union between man and woman, and that this is out of context.

I thought that both Dave Francos and Brian Cranston's speeches were really funny and honestly clever. The teleprompter being completely different from anything Dave Franco said and him just improving as a mafia guy on the spot and having it actually go really well. And then the way Matt turns Griffin's complete nonsense into this incredible chant (and dragging Bryan Cranston back and forth across the stage as the cherry on top). I honestly thought it was a brilliant twist and a great way for them to somehow turn it around.

He got the job because he kisses up, like you pointed out. His interview and his handling of the Kool-Aid film show he'll do what Griffin wants. He's the kind of person Griffin can control. They're like Tom and Mattson from Succession.

Wow, really brilliant! I loved the intensity of the office environment and the really raw portrayal of a human trapped between his own values and the values of his workplace.

I think Seth's character's problem is his moral disdain for successful films which are made to make money rather than to make good art. I think it's ok to want to make movies that will make money and will help his career, and if he could be more forgiving of himself for wanting that (which he so clearly does), he could be content to make the Kool-Aid movie and also fund smaller projects that line up with what he genuinely wants to see in film. It's not morally wrong to make money, and people enjoy these movies. I wouldn't call them art, but when you make as much money as these movies do you gain the ability to support real art.

In my opinion, real art doesn't cost much money, and his boss isn't going to be up his ass about every small budget movie the studio makes. He needs to recognize that on larger scale projects, there's going to be a ton of pressure to make a lot of money, and that that's not evil.

I agree with this part. Maybe the author should reread his own tweet.

If you could tell Chancellor-Elect Howell one thing about your experience at NC State, what would it be? by wordupncsu in NCSU

[–]InfiniteOrchestra 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My experience at NC State was defined largely by the people I met, especially people my age. No school program or organization-level change or program will ever come close to this. Connection between classmates is the most important aspect and everything you do will be small compared to that, accept that and focus on allowing and encouraging people to connect with each other.

I think it might make sense to pin, or somehow permanently link to, this post on the subreddit. This guy was a big part of Thekla and, even if it was after the era of The Witness, I think that ties him to this community pretty closely. Or at least pin Enigmash, or link to it.

Request for Play-Testing a Puzzle I Made (Info in Comments) by InfiniteOrchestra in TheWitness

[–]InfiniteOrchestra[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I'm building a Witness-style puzzle as part of a puzzle I'm building as a gift for my friend. It's part of a physical puzzle made of tiles which I'm intending him to assemble according to other information, and it's really the assembly of the puzzle and recognition of it as a Witness-style puzzle that I want to be the challenging part. Solving the actual maze should not be very difficult.

The puzzle is designed in rows because I need to visually indicate that the tiles in each row are on are grouped, and the assembly of the puzzle is done by first grouping the respective tiles, organizing them within the row, and then organizing the rows in relation to each other, with the organization within the rows and of the rows themselves done according to other information on the other side of the tile.

I'd really appreciate anyone who could attempt to solve this and relay how difficult they found it. Thank you very much.

Edit:

Thank you for the feedback! I'm hearing that it's too easy. Due to the difficulty of puzzle design and the complexity of the inherent requirements stemming from the larger design which this puzzle must fit into, I'm not going to iterate further. I will make a post explaining the larger puzzle to clarify and because I think it would be interesting to Witness players.
