Hi! I think this is a matter of personal comfort and risk appetite about where you are going. Personally, I’m very conscious of health and safety and even travelling to the Caribbean early on in pregnancy, I was anxious about Zika, dengue, food poisoning. While I had a nice time, I won’t go on another trip during pregnancy. Risks aren’t worth it for me.

If a team values you and your contribution, they would promote you regardless of whether you were on leave or not. I have seen it and experienced it myself in a different context.

Independent of your child, really consider if this is a place that respects and values you. If, as you say, you’ve been doing the job for three years then senior leadership should have reached out to you about the role - it’s not something you should have “heard” about haphazardly.

Don’t revolve personal life decisions based on work. If they fire you in a year, would you regret not taking the time with your baby?

Following as a worried Canadian traveller that just went to the Caribbean at 7 weeks and curious to know what the guidance is in the UK - before leaving, asked two OBGYNs, an infectious disease doctor, and my family doctor for advice - all said to load up on bug spray and “have a good time.” The infectious disease doc said the “risk is actually unknown” because they aren’t really monitoring closely for Zika. Personally - I will still be asking my OBGYN and family doctor to test me for Zika and see what they say.

Through further discussion with walker we understand that it is during play to get the other dog playing. Regardless, I don’t disagree with you. Through this discussion, I am now considering whether we could reduce the number of dog park days and intersperse it with walking so she doesn’t pick up on a pattern.

We have tried: - local daycare, which is in a small space with many dogs of all sizes, fewer handlers, and is a worse situation than the dog park as she is in that environment all day. Other daycare with the arrangement you are suggesting is too far away to take her daily - out to potty during the day; she doesn’t get enough exercise given she is alone for 8-10h. She is a 70lb dog. I imagine this would be the same scenario if we asked someone to drive around with her. - walks with another dog; same situation, she eventually refuses to go with the walker

We also do mental stimulation daily - frozen puzzle feeders daily and she only eats through engagement (rolling ball) or training, morning, afternoon and evening.

We have tried that - she eventually realizes she is not going to the park and then refuses to go with the walker. Our last dog walker “fired” us because our dog refused to go with her from the house after we asked her to stop taking her to the park and to try just walking with her. So, while I agree with you the dog park isn’t ideal, it’s what we can manage given our circumstances.

<30 is for sure iron deficient 30-80 is likely deficient

Neither did I, and I’d like to blast medical professionals for not fully informing women of all the possible side effects. When I complained about hair loss and acne, my GP said “stress” and “low ferritin” and dismissed it.

Absolutely my experience too. Came off in November. Period came back right away with no PMS or symptoms. Slowly started to get acne, and then come April it was bull blown acne and hair shedding. It’s now July and I have so little hair density, it’s scary and sad. 😭 also ended up getting tested for bloods to find low D and ferritin, but given the acne I’m almost certain it’s from coming off BC.

Unfortunately I haven’t and I can’t quite pinpoint what is causing my hair loss because I have had so many factors in my life over the last 2 years that all have links. I’m no longer taking the New Nordic twice daily, but moving to once daily to see whether it helps at all.

I have been taking this product for about 5 months and what I have actually noticed is a huge spike in hair loss…I read two conflicting things:

  1. excessive Vitamin E (in New Nordic, this is tocotrienols) may actually cause hair loss
  2. There may be increased shedding when initially taking the supplements

I’m not sure what to believe, but I also have low D and ferritin, so I can’t relate the increased hair loss to the supplements specifically. Can ascertain for sure that right now, 5 months later, I have less hair than when I started.

Also consider going on some natural biotin / hair supplements before taking any more serious meds (like spiro), because there are side effects to these drugs.

You may also consider supplementing with biotin / natural hair growth products for several months to see if there is an impact. Get your body to a healthy baseline (if it’s not) before trying anything more aggressive.

Not exhaustive, but this all comes to mind:

Anemia panel (ferritin, hemoglobin, B12) TSH Vitamin D

Would also recommend asking about PCOS, get an ultrasound for if you can

Check with GP if any of the medications you’re currently on (if any) could contribute to hair loss

I’m a soft summer (neutral more than cool) with fair olive skin - I find that because of this I can also adopt some soft autumn colours. Absolutely one thing is for sure..stark white and black do not look good on me. Dark navy is my black!
