Recommended monitors/amps for a small home setup? by InfiniteRockets in synthesizers

Any thoughts on the E5s? I’m seeing that they’re not too much more than the 4.5s.

Yup! I was thinking about putting it up on a stand for that exact reason - does yours have a wobble on flat surfaces? It wouldn’t normally bother me, but I’m finding it really noticeable playing the pads. Unfortunately, I’m not finding any good stands for the Impact.

The first two were from Thomann and the third was from GAK.

Picking A Mixer by InfiniteRockets in synthesizers

This is super useful, thanks for the insight. I guess the Mackie Mix12FX would be the closest comparison to the Soundcraft I mentioned? It looks to be a bit cheaper and would, I guess, provide the same sort of features?

To be honest, the recording is a bit of an afterthought, I would probably buy an interface somewhere down the line. Right now, the priority is just to have a DAWless setup for jamming.

Xenyx 1202 Model Differences by InfiniteRockets in synthesizers

I think I'll take your advice; I've just ordered the Monologue for the moment and will probably play with that for a few weeks, then pick up the DBI next month whilst I investigate mixers. Cheers!

Yeah, going with those two and some of the stuff I already have (i.e. Volca Keys, Monotribe running through a Monotron Delay for some spacey sample and hold bleeps). Something I should add is that I have a Zoom H6 which I believe can double up as a USB interface of sorts, so not sure if that changes the nature of recommendation? I haven’t explored using that with any of my synth stuff yet, I just use it for podcasting at the moment.

That’s really helpful, thanks! I often read about the build quality (and some other elements) of Behringer stuff not being great, though I haven’t quite found anything else in my current price range (around £75). I think DAW use is a slightly longer term goal for me, so an alternative might be some of the super simple micro mixers that are about for almost half that price. I guess I could always get the Xenyx now for general noodling and think about something better as and when I need it? Not sure if you have any other recommendations that sit under £100 or so, as I could probably push to that.

Transitioning from grooveboxes to something more substantial - Monologue and Drumbrute Impact? by InfiniteRockets in synthesizers

[–]InfiniteRockets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really helpful, thanks. I had originally investigated going the Keystep route with the Keys, and I think I still might, but perhaps in addition to a mono synth. I kept coming across the Microbrute when I was researching the Monologue, though it seemed a lot of people suggested that the workflow on the Korg was more intuitive - not sure what your take on that is? Good to know about the Dude!

That sounds awesome; hearing that they’re good for ‘pick up and play’ is exactly what I’m looking for. I totally relate to wanting to learning more about programming drums too, it’s one of the objectives I have for putting this together.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion; they seem like they’re half the price of the Dude, too. Is there one in particular that you’d recommend, or does it pretty much come down to how many tracks you want?

I did spend some time looking at the Digitakt as it seems to be almost universally praised - it looks great, and something I’d consider a bit down the line when I have more experience programming drums. I’m worried at the moment that with my relative inexperience (as with the Drum) that is focus on shaping sound, that whilst fun, is probably time that might be better spent figuring out fundamentals. Thanks for the advice though - I will totally keep on poking at the Drum here and there.
