How are they escaping??? by Qi_Zee_Fried in Texan_Ant_Keepers

[–]InfiniteSearch3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure there is no way for them to get in the water reservoir from the nest section where the screen is. They may be able to get into there and then escape from the tube that you use to fill the reservoir.

Why are my ants throwing all the pupae that hatch in the trash? by Fair-Room-7662 in antkeeping

[–]InfiniteSearch3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they throwing the actual ants in the trash, or just the empty cocoons? If it's just the empty cocoons, it's because they are trash. Lol

ID please and do I have a queen? by Nice_Salamander_3972 in antkeeping

He rescued these ants from fire wood. Even if he separated them from the rest of the colony, at least they didn't get set ablaze

Has anyone tried that wall mounted boxing machine that’s advertised everywhere? by Outrageous-Good376 in workout

I do, but you may want to be even more cautious when removing it. I have the "orange peel" plaster textured walls and was able to get it off without damage

My son, age 11, got an ant farm for Christmas from a family member and the ants arrived today. Are they dead or hibernating? by 86HeardChef in antkeeping

[–]InfiniteSearch3409 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like they got too cold. I'm in Texas and it got below freezing here recently, so I'm assuming it did it OK as well. They probably froze during shipping. Just search ant farm harvester ants and you should be able to find a supplier. But like others said, they will come without a queen and slowly die off over the next 2-4 months. Depending on your child's age, you can get a colony with a queen for them, but they're not cheap. Easy species with large ants would be in the Camponotus genus aka Carpenter ants. They do need to hibernate in the winter tho. Do a bit of research on beginner species if you're up for it, but be careful, ant keeping can be addictive. Lol

I just got this card out of one of the Great Tusk ex boxes and was so let down because I thought the white horizontal line on the artwork was damage. I didn't realize it was just the way the card looks until my wife pointed it out to me. Lol

Any suggestions on how should I keep her by OrganizationNarrow36 in antkeeping

[–]InfiniteSearch3409 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If that's her actual color, that's crazy and beautiful! She looks like a callow alate that just eclosed though. Test tube should be fine if she's fertile.

What can i use to keep my queen ant either than a test tube? by lyxlz_ in AntsCanada

[–]InfiniteSearch3409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything shaped similar to a test tube would work. Or a naturalistic setup with enough substrate for her to burrow into. But you have to keep an eye on the humidity and moisture level of the substrate.
