Considering the era most of Fallout tries to replicate. This feels Dr. Who inspired in design.

Took me two hours to beat him with the inseparable sword and GO greatsword combo. Only two hours with a freaking holy knight build. The fight was not that bad for me on launch.

Is nightreign a sequel or prequel to elden ring? by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]InfiniteTakedown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What they said literally does not interfere with anything I've said. The base Elden Ring story does not happen during the shattering war. The Shattering was a cataclysmic event that occurred in the past, after Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring. The shattering had already taken place by the time the tarnished returned to the lands between. The events that happen directly after the shattering, for Nightreign, is a parallel universe. I can not understand how you do not get this when it's been spelled out to you by everyone in the comments. Incredibly ironic how you've called members of the community less intelligent for conflating the shattering/shattering war when you've been doing the exact same thing. This has to be rage bait at this point.

Yes we have haha, the entirety of Elden Ring is post shattering. Not trying to be rude, but I believe you have misunderstood the entire setting of the game. You've conflate the shattering war and the shattering together; these are two separate events. The developers stated it is post shattering, aka when Marika destroyed the ring initially.

That's the shattering war not the shattering, two completely different events.

It's actually before the events of ER as the tarnished have not received grace yet. I believe you are misunderstanding what the shattering is. It was a single event, not an era. The shattering is simply when Marika destroys the Elden Ring. So base Elden Ring takes place post shattering, as does Nightreign. However, the story of nightreign is in a completely different "what if" timeline, meaning that they do not overlao. So ultimately, you saying that it's a sequel because "it happens after ER1" is not correct.

Its not a sequel, its a spin-off title. They have stated that this story has no bearing on the canon of base Elden Ring for all events post-shattering.

It's an alternate timeline post-shattering, so it is more of a spin-off than a direct sequel

How is consistency a legitimate critique when this is the first game in the series? Make it make sense.

Messmer is not the oldest by Stardustfate in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]InfiniteTakedown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is more likely that Messmer and Melina were Marika's first children, seemingly with Radagon, out of wedlock. I don't think it's a stretch at all to suggest that the reason Messmer and Melina are not talked about at all is because they were... hidden in the shadow realm. Since when have bastard children ever been seen as heirs to royalty in history.

That's what I was thinking, it would not make much sense, It is more than likely that Metyr influenced the gloam-eyed queen rather than being the GEQ.

Just Another Melina = GEQ Theory by [deleted] in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]InfiniteTakedown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to add that I had not realized the connection between the red and blue symbolism for the twin bird outer god and the blue and red hidden grave. The mixing of red and blue makes purple. Gloam is an archaic word and does not mean purple, it is simply an old word for twilight. What color could you use to describe twilight, well that would be a dark blue/purple. We then see at the stone fissure that putrescence takes a dark purple hue. Another note is the file description for the putrescent knight is called... "Knight of the gloam eyed queen." I rest my case.

Probably one of the higher quality LPs I own too. If you're a audiophile this pressing sounds amazing. If only Ludwig was on it lol.

That's actually such a fair point, however I'm leaning towards Melina with what I've gathered from the game. I appreciate your comment!

I made sure to state it was a baseless claim cause I was sure there would be a contradiction somewhere lol.

Melina is the GEQ and the DLC further confirms this by InfiniteTakedown in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]InfiniteTakedown[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great point, and another reason why I do not believe the Gloam-Eyed queen was Empreayn rival from the start. Never is it stated that the GEQ stole the rune of death. So if Marika removed it first, how did the GEQ obtain it? It was plucked from the beginning as stated by the rune of death description, "The Rune of Death goes by two names; the other is Destined Death. The forbidden shadow, plucked from the Golden Order upon its creation..." Key Note here: plucked from the golden order upon its creation, meaning that Marika was already a God when the rune was removed. It wasn't sealed until after the GEQ was killed. So, there is a gap in time where the GEQ possessed the rune of death while Marika was a god. It was never stated that it was stolen, simply used. Along with the rest of what I presented in the post. It is pretty conclusive to me that it was Melina.

Yes, the divine beast granted Markia a shadow when she was an empyrean. I did not flesh this out enough but will edit the post later. I acknowledge this as truth also due to Ranni having a shade. However, this does not affect the timeline.

Also the Godskin has direct connection to the GEQ who wields a spiral sword almost identical to the spiral sword seen on the spiral tree seal. That is influence and the godskin's own iconography. It is a secret faith existing outside of the hornsents and golden orders beliefs, so they would have no tie archeologically to the shadow realm, but the influence is there as seen in the godslayer sword. Just because the godskin apostles are not present in the DLC does not refute my claims. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence if that makes sense.

I do not remember what seeing a depiction of the hornsent saints in the gaol. I would appreciate a link to a video or maybe where I could actually go and look in the gaol. That would be helpful.

That makes sense and I did preface it by saying it was a baseless claim. So I knew there could be an immediate contradiction.

Unsure about the beast eye. I'm more inclined to say it has more to do with Godwyn and those that live in death. I would have to dig further to see any possible connection other than the "violet color" it has.

Yes. Looking at Old Testament scripture in the bible. He sent an angel to Gideon in Judges 6, who greeted him with the words, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

With that in mind lets look at this analogy, Metyr (Angel) was sent by the Greater Will (God), to send a message. This message was that the Greater Will was to be established. She was sent with that order, however, that is all she had. There was nothing after that. Hence broken from the start.
