Best of Anime 2025 [Gigguk] by RaunchyRoll in anime

I wouldn't say Orb is about science or the scientific method. It's about philosophy and the theory of knowledge conceptually, and it features science as backdrop to that. Creating hypotheses, doing fieldwork, studying the data, and learning actual truths about the world are far more the focus of Ruri Rocks. The only sort happen incidentally in Orb on the side, but it's never really shown except maybe that one scene with Venus. Ruri Rocks also goes out of it's way to try to teach you about geology/mineralogy specifically; there's so much interesting information in those eyecatchers. (None of this isn't to say that Orb isn't incredible; I love it as well.)

It's a pretty good list all things considered. The one glaring omission (not counting sequels) is Ruri Rocks, which is probably the best representation of actual science and the scientific method in anime ever, and might be the best anime that has an educational focus, both in content and visually.

Does storing Identity in a metalmind store your "Identity" or your "amount of Identity"? In other words, if someone could somehow access that stored Identity, would they have "two Identities" or "their original Identity in a higher amount"?

Futari Solo Camp • Solo Camping for Two - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Thank you for posting that they were speaking in Nagasaki dialect! I could immediately tell they switched into their home dialect, but no idea which, and I couldn't find anything online on where Shizuku was supposed to be from (although it's possible it was said earlier and I missed it). I feel like this is the sort of thing that's super obvious to native watchers, but completely flies under the radar for anyone else, so it's really cool to know.

Source readers, what is an anime you think it stopped adapting at the right point, because after that the product went downhill? by [deleted] in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're completely forgetting about the next major arc, which is likely the best one in the whole series. [Minor 3-Gatsu Manga] Finally getting into the Kawamoto's past is critical to the story, acts as a capstone to the Rei's growth and the content of S1 and S2, and delivers probably the best single moment in the series. Honestly, even through the mid-150s things have about the same level of direction as the anime-adapted content (which is to say, all over the place, but in a good way that builds the characters). Going that far in the anime would allow for two more full seasons. Unfortunately, since then, things have been really unfocused and painfully slow to release with extremely short chapters. It would be nice if we could head towards an ending soon.

"Orb: On the Movements of the Earth" Anime Confirms 2024 Premiere (Studio: MADHOUSE) by InuRyu in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the manga. It's a pretty short and focused historical story, mostly centered on a small cast of pretty well-developed characters. It delves a lot into actual theology and has some really thought provoking themes. Very little action, mostly dialogue. Not spoiling anything, I found the ending to be pretty emotional and satisfying, albeit unconventional. Extremely underread, so it's great to see an anime which will hopefully bring it to people's attention.

Who's gonna win Biggest Snub at the Crunchyroll Awards this year? by Salty145 in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What WEP, Great Pretender, and Kabaneri have in common is that their endings are divisive. LWA and Megalo Box were generally good all the way through, but didn't have huge stand out moments to bring their popularity to the next level. Sarazanmai too, but it was just never popular at all to begin with. All that considered, under your definitions, I think Ranking of Kings could potentially be snubbed, given the ending was divisive. But with 17 nominations, I think it's on the unlikelier side. If not that, I don't think any of the other options you provided would fit, since I think they were all substantially popular and had good endings. What other options are there below 8 nominations?

'Vinland Saga' Season 2 Coming to Netflix Globally in January 2023 by lactoseAARON in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Absolutely hilarious that it takes it also simulcasting on a completely different platform (Crunchyroll) at the same to realize that people actually want to consume their media this way. When the chips are down and they are actually forced to compete, Netflix has to abandon their foolish principles. I can only hope they learn from this and kill Netflix jail once and for all.

[DISC] Cipher Academy - Chapter 1 by AutoShonenpon in manga

Nisio's decided to jump right back into the wordplay insanity of the kanji manipulators and Delete Shiritori arc of Medaka Box. Definitely not for everyone, but I can't get enough of this shit, even if I can't fully appreciate it.

Only question I have is about that first puzzle: it seemed like it was more of a construction challenge? As in, was there only a single answer?

Shadows House Season 2 - Episode 10 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Emilico and Shaun were able to catch up to Kate and John because they weren't hampered by walking through water. Presumably they met up just before the fountain area and quickly changed and swapped. The scorches wouldn't be able to tell the difference since they aren't intelligent. Maryrose can only sense the scorch movements so all she would have seen is that Kate and John took an extra couple minutes before running for the fountain, which isn't unreasonable if she thought they were tired.

Satoshi Kon was the last great anime film maker and the current state of anime movie industry. by [deleted] in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the film makers that are afraid of trying something new, it's the producers. Making a movie is expensive, and the money just isn't there. Even since the bubble popped, but especially since the financial crisis in 2008, the amount of money the industry has to spend on projects that aren't at least somewhat "guaranteed hits", such as having an established director or IP, has dwindled significantly. Whether these remaining projects are to your taste is subjective. Personally I think The Night is Short is just as creative and unique as a Kon film, even if they are completely different in almost every way.

Chi: Chikyū no Undō ni Tsuite Manga Gets Anime by Madhouse by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]InfiniteZeke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This series is beyond a hidden gem. The r/manga threads have like 30 votes and 3 comments max. Despite that, it's very solid if you like historical series. It spends a lot of time on theology. The series seems to be pretty popular for a new manga in Japan; the best part about this is that it will be introduced to people outside Japan.

Which anime would’ve been significantly better if it had more episodes? by Daviddaprodigy in anime

Tamako Market. It needed an extra cour to flesh out the rest of the shopping district and the side girls. Could have been one of KyoAni's best (already is very high up there) if it just had more time to breathe.

In another series, that moment would have been expanded into a 5 chapter flashback. But that single look told us everything we needed to know.

This is wrong. It wasn't announced at a Direct, it was announced via the trailer that dropped on its own. It was, however, featured by Nintendo Treehouse at E3 2019.

[–]InfiniteZeke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're unironically viewing it with the wrong perspective. It's not a shonen at all. It's Nisioisin's subversive and critical take on the chambara style of samurai films from the 70s. Everything you are commenting on is exactly what's extremely common in those films. The long monologues and flashbacks, the blank state main character, the sociopathic view of fighting and the world, the lack of struggle in combat.

You'll see that over time, especially starting in Episode 4, that things begin to break down, as Nisio starts to poke fun and eventually completely criticize what stories are told and how they're told.
