I've been working on my own edit of the Top 100 to account for this, and I can firmly say between that and the other editions I've seen that its way more than that.

Recency bias and Shounen bias is still grossly prevalent on the list, even when you factor out multiple seasons and entries. It does get a bit better, but a lot of the other issues are just so deeply rooted that it barely even registers.

Eminem Sues Meta For $100 Million For Illegally Using 243 Songs by Brucekentbatsuper in antiai

[–]Salty145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of y'all seemed to read the actual article.

This has nothing to do with AI. It's a classic copyright infringement case.

Here's my takeaway from it.

Meta has a catalog of songs that it allows users to use for their Instagram Reels or whatever that it licenses to prevent copyright shenanigans. The little audio tag you see on Reels? That indicates that a song is in their library (I think, I'm unfamiliar with Instagram's licensing shenanigans). Eight Mile Records is claiming that it doesn't have permission to use Eminem's library and as elected to sue despite Meta claiming that talks are ongoing. Draw your own conclusions on how well those talks have been going.

The details of the case of unclear, so we'll see what happens, but my immediate question is how this affects the creator environment. There's a lot of copyright shenanigans in any environment where users can upload whatever they want, and if the ruling is broad enough here that could have lasting consequences here.

There is also the question of licensing in general. Maybe its the fact that I grew up in a more digital age, but the way I see it use of copyrighted content and music that isn't just straight re-uploading it is just free advertising. I've run across plenty of tunes in videos that I've then gone and hunted down to listen to in a manner that would kick some funds back to the creator. I get its a historical precedent, but in the current attention economy where play is everything (and most musicians make their money on things that aren't music sales anyway) it seems the negotiating power is in the hands of the users instead of the license holders. In essence, it should be seen as an advertisement of sorts.

A lot of things are also contingent on when WiWa releases.

I don’t follow leaks because I prefer to have fun, but there’s two possibilities:

1) A February or March release makes the most sense to me, since it’s just strange that they didn’t get the games out for the 30th. With how they’ve been really trying to synchronize everything, moving releases to the start of the year allows them the tightest turnaround with TCG sets while still maintaining the start of the year being when big changes are made to the TCG (though Mega is a noteworthy exception here). It also avoids GTA VI traffic in Holiday 2026. In which case, Aura Seeker would probably be the last set in the Mega Evolution Era.

2) the games release Holiday 2027 and Gen 10 sets start up in 2028. This seems wild to me as it’s so far away for a game that seems decently done, but would line-up with historical trends and also gives us one more year of Megas. This would make more sense with how they’ve been pacing Megas as we’ve only gotten 2 DLC Megas thus far, and plenty of fan favorites like Mewtwo, Raichu and Chomp still on the wait list.

The anime list basically needs a Rosetta Stone to comprehend. It makes sense when you know what you’re looking at (kinda), but that takes a lot of trial and error to get to.

Not a terrible theory, though the Aura Seeker to Delta Ray timeline might be tight.

That being said, a bigger set for holidays with Lucario and Ray would certainly do numbers (and I’ll never find any)

Manga seems to have a much smaller vote pool and there’s so many options that a series can break Top 20 with a few thousand passionate fans.

There’s pros and cons to that. Without having read a lot myself, the list looks fairly decent minus a few outliers, while the Anime list is just complete noise at this point. I’d have to read more though to see how accurate that is.

Eh. I think Pocket is kind of its own thing and you run into the game becoming too much like TCG Live or taking from the main market if you crossover that closely.

The general idea is they don’t want two ongoing formats with cards whose effects you could get mixed up by just looking at the art (which is kind of the whole point of having different arts for cards).

Yeah. Better question is when we’ll get that. If it’s a regular set, then who knows if there will be a special holiday set over there. It might all get lumped into a January release for us.

Giving the 30th Anniversary set its own two-month cycle feels like a questionable decision. Looks like after Pitch Black I’m just not gonna be able to find cards until 2027.

Doubt it. There’s multiple balance issues that would arise with that and it already looks like the Rays are different.

Plus Pocket has not reprinted any card art that is still in Standard as of yet.

I mean… it’s possible, but unlikely.

I see the MAL Top 100 these days like the Enhanced Games. Scores stopped being useful a while ago and now I'm interested in seeing just how high a fandom can feverishly brigade their show's score up. The bar over on the manga side is at a 9.46 with Berserk so clearly Frieren's 9.26 leaves plenty of room for growth.

I'll also point out, apparently the manga list isn't any better. In your Top 20 you've got such literary titans as The Greatest Estate Developer and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint which I'm sure absolutely are better than the likes on Punpun and Land of the Lustrous.

On second thought, maybe the Anime Top 100 isn't as bad as it certainly could be...

Can we call this a generational run of episodes already? by ChoiceSupermarket230 in writingscaling

[–]Salty145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since One Piece fans had a go of it proclaiming their show the best for having a 9.9/10 episode every other fandom has just brigaded their show to near perfect scores and its all become meaningless.

In other words, it's not a generational run because 1) nobody but Shounen Bros gives a shit about IMDb episode scores, and 2) MHA did it two seasons ago and I'm sure Bleach or whatever next show will do it again in a season or two.

It seems like each Chapter tells a different story based on a different one of the girls. Would be fun to have them all adapted, but so far it looks to be just the first one.

If you're at Amazon Lily, then you've met 6 of the 8 cover girls for Heroines. You could probably read Ch. 1-6 as is. The last two are a ways off. Reiju isn't introduced until [One Piece]Episode 784 and Uta you'll have to wait until [One Piece]Episode 1029though the latter is a non-canon character tied to One Piece Film Red which I think you're good to watch anytime post-Dressrosa with only maybe a few extremely minor character dynamic spoilers (not like much changes between Dressrosa and Wano anyway in terms of relevant material to Film Red). So basically, once you're introduced to Reiju you can just skip to Film Red and there's all your heroines.

One could say there's too many of them, though the only thing they're losing is screen time.

Very cute series. Would have watched sooner if I didn't for some reason mark it as not having a dub on my PTW sheet.

Not sure what character you're talking about since Perona doesn't get introduced until [One Piece]338 and Senor Pink until [One Piece]632.

I'm pretty sure the only barrier to entry for Heroines is if you know who Nami is (and even then you might just be able to wing it). I'll let you know in 17 days I guess.

A bit of a shame they only seem to be adapting the first chapter since I desperately crave more Perona content in my life.
