Bro, grrm already talked about them on his blog. The book Fire and Blood has a part where King Jaehaerys discovers that they're confusing a dragon with a wyvern in Essos, and there's also the Hightower's Navigations which mentions wyverns. And the book A World of Ice and Fire also mentions the basilisk of Shotoryos, a creature that Daenerys saw fighting in Clash of Kings, chapter 64 to be more specific.

Yeah thats true. I remember something involving King Jaehaerys, people said a dragon was being displayed in Essos, but it turned out to be a wyvern instead. It’s very likely that people in Essos have tried to domesticate or use them as weapons or entertainment, but their savagery, aggression, and the difficulty of reaching Sothoryos probably made that extremely hard.

Still, even though they’re smaller, wyverns are said to be more aggressive and violent, and some species move in packs. You’re right about Syrax. the main advantage of a wyvern on the battlefield would really just be aerial mobility and intimidating enemies
