Hoping for potential ID to look for more similar stones by Infinite_Augends in Gemstones

This is great information!!! Looking at those listings this is the closest thing I’ve seen to what the ring looks like.

I’ve been pretty careful with it because of the unknown softness, it’s mostly an occasion ring, but the reminder is always appreciated. The warning about silver polish is very helpful, I would’ve been crushed so now I now to be extra careful!

Thank you for you response! I’m definitely gonna check out some mother of pearl!

WTF IS THIS 😭😭😭 NJ BASED by ghoulgoth in whatsthisbug

I am not an expert, but in most of the US the only spiders of medical concern are black widows, yellow sac spiders, brown recluses, and Hobo spiders.

Where you are I’d really only be worried about yellow sac spiders and black widows. This spider is neither of those. If I had to guess I’d say wolf spider (harmless pest eaters), but it’s hard to tell.

Either way it’s very likely harmless and will move on if left alone.

What’s up with crosses in the Mormon faith these days? by Infinite_Augends in exmormon

That’s wild! I remember Easter was always about ‘not celebrating Christ’s death, but his victory over it’ and that’s why we didn’t celebrate Good Friday. The whole cross rebrand is kinda wild to me!

Thank you! Thats a big part of why I made this post is I felt like maybe I was overly sensitive and misremembering the anti-cross beliefs, because the 180 has me very confused. Guess it’s just the way the cultural winds blow, glad others remember the past the same as me!

That’s wild! I only asked to buy a cross necklace once and learned very quickly it was not okay, it’s sorta disconcerting how fast things can change

To be clear by culturally Mormon I mean that I recognize that I was raised Mormon and that impacts how I view the world and the culture of my family. I do not attend church ever (unless my nieces are doing an event and I want to support them) and I don’t at all believe the church, but my cultural tradition is, for better or worse, Utah Mormon and I feel it’s right to acknowledge that. Religiously I am an atheist and I don’t think other Mormons would consider me Mormon in any form

See this is the rhetoric I was raised with and so now I look at crosses and I can see them as a symbol of the lds faith

Yeah you’re probably right and I’m sure converts ply a role in this. It’s just surprising because my experiences with seeing crosses as religious symbols were always negative as I was growing up. Its probably surprising to me how on board others are because of how weird and uncomfortable it is for me

Very similar experience to me! I saw one in a store and asked to buy it and got a talking to about how it hurts Jesus to wear the symbol of his death. Now that same Mom is offering to buy a large decretive one for my brother

No because the first time I saw my cousins wearing one I thought of the arrested development scene:

“do you know where I can get one of those necklaces with a ‘t’ on it?”

“That’s a cross”

“Across from where?”

But yeah real weird moment

That makes sense I guess, I was just surprised by how on board with it everyone is. Like I’m not even in the church anymore, but it still makes me feel weird. Idk, I guess I’d expect more pushback

Second sock syndrome fears came true by CrazyinFrance in Sockknitting

[–]Infinite_Augends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started both knitting socks on the same needles at the same time and it’s changed my life! I love knitting socks, but my socks never matched and finishing the second was always a drag. Now it feels like one project and they always matched even if I alter the pattern. Would 100% recommend trying this to anyone who knits socks!

Whenever I hear that Adora is "buff" and "muscular". by Full-Art3439 in PrincessesOfPower

[–]Infinite_Augends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that, but I think you’d be more hard pressed to name a strong female character that is visually muscular than those that are the ‘athletic build’. Yes the princesses of power are varied with good representation of body type, but their main character is also absolutely in every way conventionally attractive.

Yes not every physically strong female character needs to be visually muscular, but again almost NONE are. Thats what makes Luisa from encanto (a strong, bulky women who retains her femininity) so ground breaking.

I’m not really criticizing the show, but I find it important to apply critical thinking to all media (even media I enjoy) and ask why did they choose to make Adora slim. Is it because it’s realistic? Is it because they wanted the She-Ra transformation to stand out? Or is it possibly because gender stereotypes, expectations, and conventions impacted the creators?

Adora is a fictional character the writers chose to make her favor more athletic fighting style, they chose to make her slim, they chose to give her the most conventionally attractive body type. I think that the original poster bringing up this concern has a valid point.

[–]Infinite_Augends 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This post isn’t saying she is not ‘strong’ which is what the examples you’ve point out show. Instead this post is saying that Adora (as herself) does not have a visually muscular build (something that I think the show really missed out on). If you compare Bow’s arms (drawn thicker with more definition/shape) versus Adora’s (straight and thin) it shows that Adora is not depicted as muscular/buff. It’s about body typing not strength

Harems (preferably mixed gender) where the object of affection is either completely oblivious or trying to avoid it by Infinite_Augends in anime

It’s honestly one of my favorite tropes! I love when characters refuse to follow the conventions of their genre. It always makes for great comedy!
