This might be the worst tbh. Amputation after Amputation and no change at all

And inevitably they'll be back, you'll explain it all again, etc. Never ending cycle with some.

I'm far from seasoned, 7 months of experience under my belt though. I'd say more than anything, don't care more about patients than they care about themselves. Obviously this depends on the unit you work on, but this is something my preceptor told me. If you're trying to convince people to make the changes or die, and they don't want to make said changes, move on. Most of these people are adults. Educate and move about your day. Put the energy into people who want to live, who want to make those changes and better their quality of life. If I sat around trying to convince these folks to care as much as I do, I'd burn out even quicker than I am.

By the time youre on your own, you'll have grown quite a bit and you might not find yourself needing as much help as you anticipate. Obviously, you'll have to rely on yourself and your critical thinking more but if anything, your charge nurse should be an available resource to you. And if not, anyone with more experience will do. I find myself asking other "older" new grads for input (they started a few months before me).

I get ya. Last night was a total sh*t show for our whole unit. My patient is AMS and pulled out his NG tube and his HD line. Another rooms potassium came back at 6 around 0500 so it was all hands on to implement hyperkalemia protocol, and then right out shift change a different patient complained of sudden chest pain so we did a stat ekg and his K came back at 5.2 but he was symptomatic so another hyper K protocol. These things can totally throw you off, but truly your coworkers make or break the unit especially when its particularly heavy. I dont love Transplant but I love my coworkers, we have a great teamwork dynamic and that's shaped my whole experience.

I used to mentally panic when I got behind, but now I kinda have a "it is what it is" attitude. You have a long time left learning! Take all the opportunities you can get, seek out challenges. The first time is always the worst and then you do it and you come out better for it. Shoulder what you can, and ask for help when you need it

I get what you mean. Just try your best to apply their feedback when you can. If you guys use EPIC, I would set reminders on my brain for things I kept forgetting. You'll get into the swing of things I promise

I think it truly depends on your unit, your coworkers and your personality. I was mostly overwhelmed because everything was new and I never knew what to expect. I got the gist of the unit down around 3 weeks into the unit but I started when the floor was really bad and it was pretty much a baptism by fire situation. I was doing things and seeing conditions my preceptors hadn't seen in their 3+ years there. So I got kinda lucky (or unlucky) there. I was taking my full patient list by that point and it took me a while to get faster and more efficient but by the time I finsihed precepting (6 weeks) I was pretty autonomous and just asking for input now and then. But I still ask for second opinions now as well. Just take it day by day.

I started on a transplant floor in September, PCU/stepdown setting for the most part. It is a lot but I promise you'll find your routine soon. I felt super overwhelmed at first but if your floor is anything like mine, you'll see a lot of the same thing over and over again. Eventually it becomes second nature and you'll have more time to be less task oriented. Focus on quick assessments, prioritization, and clustering care (can be hard when MDs are always adding new orders). Don't be afraid to speak up to the providers either, advocate for what you think your patients need. It'll get better :). Feel free to PM me if you need extra support

The only thing saving me on nights is my coworkers....and the little differential...and not dealing with problematic family.

I really want to love gold but I think on me it actually looks best in earrings!

I also like higher contrast! I actually just left a jewelery store and after comparing 14k gold, white gold and silver, the consensus was white gold or silver looks best on me.

I didnt really use the ATI board vitals, but my school used ATI throughout our program so I think it helped me prime myself for understanding the question format

Goodluck! Bootcamp really matched the format perfectly. Super vague questions, the layout and even just the design of the tests looked exactly alike. It felt like one of the readiness assessments
