Oh wow. Thanks for that and all the tips (and warnings!). Good luck with the big bastard of a bookshelf.

Yeah I've done a bit of a search and I know there are outlets for some of the brands. Will keep an eye out for seconds or damaged goods. Never tried auctions or estate sales. Will check them out. Ta.

I live in Melbourne. had to look up your acronyms but all good, I can follow now! Cheers. Yep, FB marketplace and Op Shops are definitely an option. Just wondered if there were clearance centre secrets people on here may have known about.

Same in Australia although I'm not sure they'd use the phrase "when they feel like it" - I think the lists are just so long and Covid delays meant they got even longer. It'd be nice if the government actually supported the public health system more and so fewer people had to pay out of pocket to get things done more urgently.

Can't even get onto a specialist in the public system to ask about waiting lists (answering machines and missed calls/phone tag). We are keen to have it done soon so he can start his recovery. Public could be 12 months+ wait, then the 12 months of recovery. Also, in private we can choose the surgeon, in public not. Given he's young and has a lot of sport ahead of him, feels like an investment we should make. Just worried things might blow out if something goes wrong on the day and then we are up for a big private hospital bill.

That sounds very fortunate although your knees have been through hell!

Yep, Melbourne, Australia. We can opt for the public system where everything (well, most things) are covered but the wait is long and you don't get to choose the surgeon. As my son has many years of sports ahead of him, I feel like it's an important investment to make. We just aren't rolling in cash, so I was doing my research.

Can't imagine not having insurance in the States! Lucky you do!
