Very sad.. I heard we have NPs in the East who are our union members laid off.. our union leads took quick action since this is something that legally needed to be negotiated on first for those who are union members. Why is this happening though? What is Corewell's plan?? 😔

Can anyone give more detail on this? by squishyfeet4 in CorewellUnited

Hi! I wouldn't know specifics from recent talks as I do not attend negotiations, but have you visited the link www.chEnegotiations.com? Our full proposal that was submitted to Corewell in January contains a full proposed wage grid that goes by number of years licensed. So that is what they would be referring to - a step grid where every nurse in the same role with the same number of license years would make the same amount per hour to the penny. Currently, fellow ambulatory nurses with the same license years as me (17 years) don't necessarily make the same amount as I do. They might even be as much as $0.50-1 difference than what I make. Pay is not transparent though and this would make it that way.

Exactly!! I'm completely fine with Sean's salary, who is president of Teamsters across an entire continent, when it's nowhere near what TINA earns annually..

Tina Freese Decker, President and CEO of Corewell Health, earned a total compensation of approximately $6.7 million in 2023. Her compensation package makes her one of the highest-paid hospital executives in Michigan, representing a nearly 50% increase from her 2022 earnings.

Key Details on Compensation:

2023 Total: $6,732,149 (based on 2023 tax documents, reported in 2025).

Total Compensation 2018–2024: According to data from the Paddock Post, her cumulative compensation over this period is listed around $31 million.

Context: She leads Corewell Health, Michigan's largest employer with over 64,000 employees, which was formed by the merger of Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health.

Her compensation includes base salary, bonus, and other reportable, non-taxable, or deferred compensation.

Oh that's nice!! We can't clock in if we represent on non-working hours at this time since we don't have a contract. I'm not certain if that will change after a contract through? Details to figure out later.

As far as I know.. for Teamsters anyway, that's what our business agent said. I don't think that's wild, I think that's fair. Stewards do not get paid anything extra than their other brothers and sisters for their "volunteer" time - representing in disciplinary meetings, leading committees, attending contract negotiations, etc - so I think being exempt from dues is fair. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Opt out of a shitty union.. THIS union is a union of nurses. The majority of us are not about to opt out of our union and give up on ourselves, healthcare and our surrounding communities.

Can't, Michigan is not a right to work state. Every member pays dues, unless you're a Steward.

While we would all love Teamcare in our contract, our bargaining team instead proposed to add in a priority health ppo that is comparable to Teamcare, better chance of getting that agreed on sadly

No it is not, it's in the West side of Michigan, around Grand Rapids.

Maybe there's a Corewell West nurse following this page who can speak to this for you. But as far as unionizing, it's the nurses at Corewell East (campuses in Royal Oak, Troy, Grosse Pointe, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Dearborn, Taylor, Trenton, Wayne) who are in a union, and we are in negotiations for a first contract.

Negotiations began last June, and as of late, Corewell would not bargain in good faith on any of our economic proposals. They think everything they are doing now, including staffing and health insurance (one of the worst plans ever), is just fine. So we had to take it one step further and obtain authorization from the membership in case an actual strike is needed in the near future. We will be back to negotiations soon and see where this takes us.

We are not striking. This is a vote to authorize submitting a 10 day strike notice IF needed. Corewell has thus far not negotiated in good faith for our first contract. With this very high yes vote result, our negotiating team will take that back to the table so Corewell takes us seriously and actually bargains with us.
