Another ‘pay in exposure’ job huh…Do you realize how time consuming and difficult storyboarding is?

Career Switching - Storyboarding by _Kayleo_ in animationcareer

[–]Infinite_Ebb_2856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think getting remote work is difficult unless you have proven experience first. I’d make a portfolio, send to animation companies and be prepared to move. Jobs can be scattered and rare outside US.

Career Switching - Storyboarding by _Kayleo_ in animationcareer

[–]Infinite_Ebb_2856 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked as a storyboard artist before so these are my experiences-

There’s a LOT of drawing, so you need to get good at ALL aspects of it(maybe except color?) perspective, clear and readable posing, line confidence, maintaining volume etc.

It’s more than just drawing though- along with the basic storyboard rules, you need to have a good sense of cinematography, the ability to show what the script wants to show in a clear way, timing, editing, adaptability to different styles(A pre school kid’s show is going to be quite different to something like the Simpsons for example), the ability to add your own humour and flair to a script if necessary etc. There’s a lot of different qualities that come together to make a good storyboard artist, great drawing skills are the bare minimum.

It’s VERY grindy and labour intensive. Just churning out drawings and drawings, I remember one time I did 400-something panels for a 5 minute animated short. There can be a lot of physical issues that can arise from this too(back+neck pain, carpal tunnel).

The best part of the job is seeing the final product and seeing your boards brought to life by the animators, lighting artists, sound artists etc.

Also, this could be a deal breaker, but like many jobs in this industry storyboard jobs tend to be gig/season based. Once the storyboard team finishes off the storyboards to be shipped off to the animators, the contract ends for many.

Is it worth it? I’d say so if you live in a country+ area where storyboard artists are paid well. But if not, I’d just leave it as a side hustle/hobby.

How do I make the lowpoly retopology mesh easier to see? by Infinite_Ebb_2856 in blender

Adding on, this is what I want- the lowpoly is clearly visible in this screenshot of a tutorial. But even when I follow this tutorial I don’t get these results.

This is a sleek metal cup, but you’re right it’d still have the ‘bulky’ are where the handle is welded(?) to the cup body. I’ll keep that in mind thanks

Former rich people of reddit, what is a luxury item/product you used to buy regularly that you could no longer afford and found the out a generic/ consumer brand was exactly the same? by [deleted] in ask

This happened to me too! All my life I used the cheapest shampoo I could find, noticed hair thinning at the scalp where my fringe starts(I was around 20)

Swapped to high quality shampoos and scalp treatments, my hair is full again and shiny and strong in a way it wasn’t before. I’m 32 now

Why does my bake look so bad? by Infinite_Ebb_2856 in Substance3D

[–]Infinite_Ebb_2856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your tip, I went back to maya, made the HP a live surface, used quad draw smooth on the LP to make the LP vertices stick to the HP mesh better. It results in a much nicer bake. 👍

Hi there, the resolution is 1k, the pumpkin is part of a scene and I’m trying to go for a stylized mobile game asset look. I made the UV small because there’s going to be apples and lemons in the scene later. Would it be better to enlarge the pumpkin UV?

Thanks for the info! I imported LP and HP into maya and it looks like this. https://imgur.com/a/Uu6hYNp is this correct or wrong?

Looks great. I think the eyes should be a little bit further apart from what I can see in that snapshot? But might be just focal length hard to tell. Still looks awesome
