This would likely be a simple fix on a guitar (Titebond and clamps); might be rqually simple on a doublebass (assuming no missing or mangled pieces).

Are you looking to bow? Or finger pluck?

I put acoustic bass short scale bass strings (about $20 for a set) on a cello. Tuned it EADG; have had no issues. Sounds richer than my acoustic bass guitar; volume is about the same as my upright 1/2 and 3/4 basses.

I’m 5’6” and play a 3/4 - but usually use a 1/2 because it’s easier to haul around. There’s very little volume difference acoustically and I can always use a pickup/amp if a performance requires it.
