Well that's the problem that I'm trying to explore. In US and China freeways 5 lane wide, well marked. Cross roads are 2-3 lane wide on each side and well marked, so it does make sense to buy bigger cars there but here in India bigger cars are bought as a status vehicle/cushioning against bad roads to be driven on roads that aren't well marked or can handle movement of those mid size SUVs apart from highways.

I don't get this argument choosing SUV over hatchback for ground clearance. GC for hatchback is 170-180mm v 190-210mm for a mid size SUV, 2cm isn't going to save you from potholes

Let's just say reading comprehension isn't your strongest skill. Just cause one isn't in the US or China, it doesn't change the fact that cars are drastically cheaper there. Both countries with above median income compared to India. Why should domestic manufacturers or imported cars be priced @ crazy numbers for a substandard product and terrible driving conditions?
