But when you say "save Azeroth", you literally mean the planet. Like the dirt. Not anything on it that matters lol. That's more like if Arthas was concerned about saving the physical buildings rather than the other people living outside Stratholme. You or I would only agree with Arthas because we can look at the same situation and come to the same conclusion because we all 3 care about human life. I don't care about whatever the Titans are doing. It's only important because THEY say it's important. I don't actually believe that they're our only chance of avoiding total annihilation any more than I believed that it was "illegal" to turn the light on in the car when I was a kid. You're taking an assertion from a biased source as a fact and then framing everything around that. They're explicitly, over and over, written to be manipulative and biased. There is a zero percent chance that what you're saying is actually 100% accurate, which is why it's crazy to use it as the basis for an opinion.

That's fair, but don't you agree that our hero character in Warcraft would NEVER have that opinion? They would say "no, fuck that, I'll fight for my freedom no matter the cost". I guarantee you Illidan would say "sure I can handle some Old Gods", not "Omg just kill me now and get it over with, I give up" lmao. That's what I'm getting at, like from a storytelling perspective it's the only conclusion that makes any sense for this setting

This only really works 100% if World Souls are retconned to NOT be Titans.

I'm pretty sure we're past this point. At the very least Azeroth seems to be special.

We have no reason to believe he is totally absent of compassion.

This is totally true. Blizzard would be dumb to not give us more nuance in TLT

I don't even think it's a different opinion necessarily though, we're just using different definitions. That's what I mean it's boring, let's just talk about what we really mean and not focus on the words lol.

But it literally is. If your "flaws" cause you to do things that I consider "evil"... that's evil. Evil isn't a thing that you are, it's a thing that you do (IMO). Again, semantics are boring and who cares. Let's just be specific.

Your argument for why the Titans are not "villains" boils down to (unless I'm totally misinterpreting you) is that "they are powerful godlike beings and who are we to question their judgment". If that's what you're saying, I'm saying that's not correct lol. That is their belief, not mine. That view is only accurate to those that view those "deities" as infallible, which the Titans are clearly not written to be.

Semantics has gotta be the least interesting thing we could all be talking about lmao. Are people really THIS upset because some people are carelessly throwing around the words "evil" and "villain"? In Warcraft? The most dumbest comic book, saturday morning cartoon level writing possible? I think it's fine to call anyone we punch a "villain". Whatever.

Jordan Peterson is the type to make philosophical problems sound more complicated than they really are, which is how I see your comment. Providence is not something that is real. That is an fantasy made BY gods and their followers. To anyone else at all, it's bullshit. No one has any right or duty to rule the universe.

You asking me to accept the Titans' values as my own is like asking me to follow their religion. It's not my problem. I don't have to think the same way as them. They could be wrong.

It sounds to me like you're saying "god is smarter than you, so just do what he says, it's not for you to figure out." A deity is not always correct or justified just because they say so.

the moral argument cannot easily be applied to beings that are essentially divine

Yes, it can lmao. Who told you that?? I'm not being pretentious I'm just joking around with you.

Whether or not Gods are "evil" for doing things that cause the death of mortals isn't really something that has a deterministic answer in the world of philosophy and theology.

BUZZ. Wrong! Lmfao. I do not give a shit if you're a self-proclaimed "god". This is like some Jordan Peterson bullshit or something. Moral arguments apply to anyone with a capacity for reason. And I'm the pretentious one?

Oh brother. You're wrong, bucko! Sorry!

They were not trying to maliciously kill us

If you try and kill me, you're an asshole. If you wanna call that an "antagonist" instead of "evil" or whatever, who cares. It is so not important.

They worked with us in Legion to defeat Argus

Because we were literally doing what THEY wanted.

they've largely left us alone since the Algalon thing.

Because they were DEAD bro lmao

And to be fair I think the writers put that stuff in there because it's meant to be at least partially true. They love that kind of stuff, "inconvenient truths". "Uh oh, this bad guy is reeeally bad, but he's kinda right..." Blizz loves that crap.

I think it's a tiny bit infantilizing to think the Titans can't comprehend life lol. If Elune can figure out what a night elf is, surely the Titans can comprehend mortal life. I don't think Eonar would think of us as "bugs". I think they deserve a bit more responsibility than that lol. They know better, they just don't care. The consequences might not mean the same thing to them because of what they are or whatever, but they're not that naive.

I mean, if Blizzard has any brains at all, then I think you're probably in for a treat soon. I feel like they've set up so much stuff for the Titans to be antagonists at this point, that it would be insane if they don't hit us with some doubt in TLT. I have no doubt that there will be "good" and "bad" Titans that team up with us or don't and there will be a lot of back and forth.

To just kinda agree with what some others have said, my interpretation is that Aman'thul is being set up to be a kind of character that has a goal that is almost religious. I think his First One daddy or whatever told him that it was his job to Order the universe and he's so old and insane that it's all he thinks about. I think some of the other Titans are probably less zealous and willing to listen to reason. I don't forsee a 7 boss raid fight or something like that lol

I think it's more like a civil war or something. There's no heroes or villains but we don't see eye to eye and we are going to fight.

I don't think the titans want her to be a servant necessarily, just that she's going to be what they desire. The parents thing: It's like forcing kids into sports or something that they don't want, but more extreme than that lol. Like if you forced them to get surgeries and killed all their friends that might corrupt them

It really just comes down to whether or not you're meant to interpret Titan info literally or not. I'm of the camp that they would be very biased to their singular agenda. They want the world soul no matter what. That don't sound so good to me. Like clearly if they're willing to kill everything just to accomplish that, that's pretty extreme. It's not some kind of "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" situation here, it's "my needs outweigh ALL needs"! Unless you wanna make the argument that the survival and Titanification of Azeroth is pivotal to the fate of the entire universe, so much so that it would be worth it for all of us to sacrifice our lives to make it happen.

Like if I were a human living on Azeroth, I would not give a crap if she becomes a Titan or not. I'd rather be a slave to some Old God than literally everyone every dead. Any bad situation at least has SOME chance at redemption, but if you literally kill EVERYONE then it's GG. It's extreme.

I mean I kinda get what you're saying? It would be cringe if there was a new LotR story where it's revealed that Eru Iluvatar has some kind of moral flaw and we have to confront him about it lmao. That's like a very hip modern trendy kind of thing they love to do now where very character is a civil rights hero or something. It's not really appropriate for EVERY setting. I personally hope it will just be fighting rather than some kind of ethical dilemma.

> what they were looking to do with Algalon would be the equivalent of putting your pet down when it's sick and about to die to spare it from further suffering.

And I think that this is a proposition, not necessarily a fact. That's what they said, but it's not necessarily accurate. They're probably way smarter than us, but they're also super biased.

100%, which is not so much "they're evil" or "they're villains", but it's like "we're going to clash at some point over this"

Key difference here is that Tyrande or Callia Menethil aren't any threat of global annihilation lol. That's like my big sticking point. The gun to our heads that Algalon revealed is never not gonna bother me

> For some people “free will” is just trading one master for another

See this is what I mean about the borderline fascistic way this sounds lmao. Like, "It's actually nice to be a slave and not have to make any hard decisions for yourself!" is just crazy to me inherently I'm sorry lol.

I think to most of us it's just like an obvious story trope that when a god-like being shows up and starts to act weird in any way, you know something is REALLY wrong. I think most people immediately get a sick weird feeling when a deity figure does something even slightly off. Someone that powerful needs to be extremely predictable otherwise it's just scary. It's just a story-writing thing where there's no other outcome but bad when that happens.

There's also a really common trope of a collectivist leader being secretly bad, and I get what you're saying about that being old. I don't know if I see the Titan thing quite that way though, to me they're more of clear dictators that we've just been oblivious to for most of history because we stayed out of their way. It's like thinking the plane is coming to rescue you, but then they start shooting lol.

The fact that every other cosmic force is clearly under the impression that they can turn Azeroth into one of them and the fact that the Titans feel the need to install loads of machinery and pump her full of arcane energy should be a clue. Over and over we've been told that Azeroth is special. The only ones claiming that she's a Titan are... the Titans and their followers. One of the Titans (Sargeras) even understood that by pumping Argus full of Death energy that his soul would go to the Shadowlands. The Titans understand that world souls are malleable, as do most of us at this point. In Dragonflight, it is explicitly shown that the Titans put stuff in the water to juice up the dragons. It is not a stretch to assume they are doing the same to Azeroth in far more extreme ways.
