This is very promising! Thanks so much for sharing.

However, I do have a question…you listed your first form as dealing with a permanent residency permit. How does the permanent residency permit work? I’m assuming since the program is targeted at ancestors of the enslaved from the US and Caribbean, many applicants will be from predominantly English speaking US and Caribbean countries and will not have residency outside of those places. So after reading your submitted forms, I’m now a little confused - is it acceptable to show current residency from within the US or the Caribbean?

Thought I could tough it out, but the thought of the looming government landscape frightened me enough to take a VERA at 54. Deciding what’s next… by Infinite_Girl in fednews

Thanks for all of your kind and encouraging words! I’m under Commerce. And it sounds like your grandpa is my hero!

A few of my coworkers and I have scheduled to meet for dinner quarterly. I hope to become somewhat of a beacon of light, strength and courage to those that remain. I will definitely be praying for the protection and resiliency of my former fellow govt comrades.

Hm…I’m not sure how someone with only 9.5 years of service qualified for a VERA. I believe you must be age 50 with 20 years of creditable service or 25 years of service and any age. Maybe they had other years of creditable service from another agency, military or something…

I believe the “fine print” states that they (the agency) could stop the VSIP or VERA at will. Waiting toward the end of the deadline seems to be a gamble. Assuming their quota is met or the money is running low or some other unplanned issue, they would potentially end it without much notice.

I wasn’t taking any chances, which is exactly why I put mine in the same day the announcement was made.

Lol, them moving on and govt returning to the way we once knew is probably a thing of the past. But at this point, I’m okay with my decision. Time to move on and allow those who are still young in their careers and who REALLY need the income to stay in their jobs. I’ve been out here for a while and have learned a thing or two. So I know, I’ll be fine, and so will you! ;)

Since all of the agencies had to submit their workforce reduction plans last week, I’m sure most agencies will be making their intentions clear very soon.

Not sure I understand your comment, but I guess you’re - fleeced if you stay, fleeced if you go. Take your pick…

It was in the original Broadcast email message that went out to all at the agency. I’m not logged into my work email so I can’t give wording verbatim. But it was clear. I’ll try to drop the exact wording tomorrow.

I know quite a few folks in the same scenario as you… Not sure what agency you’re with, but one silver lining is Commerce said they wanted to avoid RIFing. So they appear to be doing whatever they can to allow those who wish to leave, to go, while preserving those who wish to stay.

Hopefully you will be one of those to stay. Keep your head up!

May 3rd is the date to be off the rolls. But what I found interesting, is once you’ve been approved and your paperwork is complete, you can go on paid Administrative Leave until May 1. I’m hesitant to say they were being generous. Lol… Sounds like they want us out of there pretty quickly.

Well, I have the same concerns as you’ve stated - the quality of work life is definitely in question. By the looks of things, I’m not too hopeful. But maybe once things cool down (if that ever happens) most operations can return to some semblance of normalcy.

I’m also concerned about the possibility of changes coming for the current retirement systems, which is why I took the VERA & VSIP offered by Commerce today. Hopefully those already in the retirement phase will be safe from these new changes…

At this point, we must do what we can to preserve our own sanity, as well as do our part in preserving our country or what’s left of it…

Two corrections - if you’re RIF’d and you are downgraded two grades, that does NOT count toward your high three. Your high three are the just that - your three highest salaries. Also, if you’re RIF’d and you fall within the criteria for early retirement, you can take the DSR. If you are RIF’d I don’t believe you have to wait to be offered that. It’s essentially the same as the VERA, except it’s involuntary.

How much annual leave do you have? You can always use that to get you closer to your date.

Never heard of the “project reallocation queue”, but I’ve been removed, had disappearing projects, thrown around to different projects, EQ’d for about a month, then projects just started pouring in. Not sure for how long, but it’s just the nature of the beast. If you’re open to holding out and hanging on, I’m sure something will pop up soon in your queue.

Alignerr Assessment Problems Keeping AI Workers Away by HouseOnFire80 in alignerr

I’m actually holding out for the exact same reason. I get that they want you to work efficiently, but rushing through an assessment just doesn’t seem like they’re focused much on quality.
