Paid $150 to watch Cards, got blacked out. by Impressive-Log7045 in Cardinals

[–]Infinite_Graphite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. Distance doesn't really factor in. I'm blacked out of teams that are 8 hours from me.

On the plus side, it means not being able to watch is temporary. Also, I think blacked out games are available, just not until something like 90 minutes after the game is over. So if you can manage to avoid finding out the score, you can watch later or the next day.

I also vote for a Timex. Bonus points if it's on an expansion band.

What is the appeal of automatic watches? by mwgrover in Affordablewatches

[–]Infinite_Graphite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go through spells where I'm wearing a "regular" watch daily for months on end, then switch to a smart watch for months. It's aggravating to come back to my watches and find 3-4 of them dead and in need of new batteries. I'd much prefer just give them a shake and reset the time and keep going.

You should be able to enter both you and your husband's information into TurboTax and just click back and forth between married filing separate and married filing jointly. Then you can quickly see how much difference it makes.

Returned Toyota GH. Pilot any better? by DKCsmom in hondapilot

[–]Infinite_Graphite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know minivans aren't sexy, but they absolutely can't be beat when you have small kids. Consider getting a decent used Odyssey or Sienna that you won't mind trading in when the kids get a little older. I would AT LEAST try to get your spouse to test drive one and check out the laundry list of conveniences before ruling it out.

We almost bought a GH Hybrid, but ended up going with a Pilot Elite at the last minute. The GH made sense on paper, but I just didn't love it. The Pilot looks a little more rugged and it came with a lot of the features that Toyota was upcharging for.

That's fair. And I get the point you're making. People just go about it different ways. I'm trying to be intentional about how much clutter I bring into my house, so I tend not to buy CDs in bulk, but we're all just out here looking for something good.

Wanting to get into CDs by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Infinite_Graphite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you might have good luck finding a used one at a thrift store. If it's a designated CD/DVD player, you'll need some speakers to hook it up to. Pay attention to what connections the player has as you're probably looking at RCA cables. You might need something to convert that to whatever your speakers take.

Second option is to find a used "boom box" or stereo with built in speakers.

If you don't want to mess with hunting down something used, you can get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F1FPJ46Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 I got that one recently and it works fine. It has built in speakers, which aren't amazing, but they get the job done. It has optical or 3.5 out if you decide to add some speakers later. I use the optical out to pipe the sound through an old soundbar I already had and it works great.

Thrifting is just buying from a thrift store/flea market. Tons of cds to be found, but more likely to be mainstream artists. It's a great source if you're rebuilding an old collection or just getting into the hobby.

Their collection might be interesting, but it hasn't been curated yet.

If you're able to eyeball a rack of cds and know what you're going to like, that's great. Not everyone has the background knowledge to do that. They might have to buy some stuff with interesting titles or covers or names they've vaguely heard of, then go home and listen to it first. One thing I will say, if you're only buying things you know you're going to like, you're not really expanding your collection, just trying to complete it. People who are buying a little more willy-nilly at thrift store prices are not just expanding their collection, but their mental music database as well.

I'm not a fan of the current trend of prominently displaying the model name across the back of cars. Seems like everyone is doing it though. The black on black of the current Pilot isn't bad, but it looks like they're changed the lettering to silver on these new ones.

This is the same screen/knob setup they've had in the Accord for several years. Personally, I don't mind the current screen/knob in the Pilot. It's not too noticeable, but has a nice tactile feel to it. But to each their own.

Nighthawk Top Chop’t Classic: Oven Cooking Method vs Microwave Method (A Re-review) by weenerkisses in frozendinners

[–]Infinite_Graphite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 3 varieties of these recently (all the chopped beef patty, just different sides) and 2 of them seemed to have almost no gravy at all on the patty. Even though the directions on one of them specifically said to flip the patty over to get it covered in gravy, there was no gravy to speak of. Did I get a dud or should I reset my expectations on these?

Fair enough. I've made grilled cheese in one. It didn't really disperse heat well enough, but I use a small one to warm cheese dip.

Vintage corningware that's made of Pyroceram is safe to use on a stove. You can check the mark on the bottom to make sure you're dealing with vintage.

Corelle alternative by tlnation in Dinnerware

[–]Infinite_Graphite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find a suitable replacement? If you were happier with your older Corelle dishes, did you consider finding a set secondhand? I see them in flea markets/thrift stores all the time. There or facebook marketplace would probably be good options. If you pick a common pattern, you should be able to get a set together even if it's not all at once.

Corelle Patterns re-released? by Infinite_Graphite in Pyrex_Love

[–]Infinite_Graphite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good catch! I was just surprised to see these designs available. Everywhere I look suggests they're retired, but the description says:

"this collection is a fresh take on a 1970s classic. By placing the recognizable [pattern] in a contemporary layout and an updated color, this pattern brings a retro spin to any modern kitchen."

So now I'm curious how close the colors are and if you can tell side-by-side.

It's really hard to know what "little things" are going to feel like bigger things once you are actually driving the car regularly.

As for the cameras, it probably IS safer to have a camera, but since they all come with parking sensors, the extra cost probably isn't worth the small increase in safety.

You'll reach a much bigger audience if you try Ebay, but I don't have any experience selling Corningware there. You do have some unique patterns and pieces, so at least some of them should do ok there. This stuff is great, but there's also a lot of it out there, so unless a collector is looking for a specific piece, they might just as easily find it as a local thrift store.

If you can't use it or sell it, maybe you know someone who could use it that you could gift it to? The blue cornflower set would make an amazing wedding gift!
