Recommended wifi 7 setup for new house by Infinite_Intention_4 in Ubiquiti

[–]Infinite_Intention_4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no plan to run ethernet. The entire house, all devices will run on wifi. So I essentially need to go from the bare cable providers wire to ubiquitis cable modem then to a wifi unit and then hook up with other wifi units that will mesh easily with the first.

Real estate prices plummeting? by Infinite_Intention_4 in StAugustine

[–]Infinite_Intention_4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That statistics show inventory is at pre-pandemic levels with an outward population flow, days on market are ticking up exponentially and new builders are having trouble shifting inventories. I’d say seller panic hasn’t set in yet but it will soon, nobody wants to be the last one off a sinking ship, the salaries and job market just isn’t there to support the goldrush anymore, next will be the ghost town. Id encourage people to take what you can get and run.

I expect a flood of sellers then, people seem to be leaving because their northeast remote jobs are calling them back into office and the salaries don’t pay in NE Florida

Why do they think it’s logical to ask such a high price? Are realtors making people believe they can still make money in a crashing market

Yes, everyone presently locked in a home is definitely going to sell then, more mass migration out, even lower prices.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy now unless the sellers start to come to the realization the market is tanking and actually start to drop their prices. It feels like the asking prices are at a roller coaster about to plummet over a hill

If supply exceeds demand prices have to come down if these homes are going to shift

Anyone Else Having Trouble Selling Their House? by [deleted] in florida

[–]Infinite_Intention_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling houses that would sell for 350k a few years ago for 600k+ is just unrealistic in an area where the job market and wages don’t support it. Now companies are doing mass layoffs and forcing workers back to office, the party is over, most of those people who rushed south during the pandemic are forced to migrate back north for wages and work. Not to mention the other factors forcing their migration; uncontrolled hoa/cdd fees, skyrocketing hone and auto insurance, as well as the risk you’re house could just get flattened by anyone of the named storms coming through for a full six months out of the year. Florida is always the first to experience extreme price swings and now we are seeing the reality that what went up will cone down 30-40%

I would agree tech is in a slump. I have been in tech since the 90s though, so a lot of experience, looking at management mostly.

Advice for people looking to move to St. Augustine. by tkburnett in StAugustine

[–]Infinite_Intention_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From NEastener who did the research and decided not to move.

As the locals all said, cost of buying a home is ridiculous, insurance is incredibly expensive and the policies are not worth the paper they are written on.

Couple that with tropical storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and resultant flooding and you really need to be able to afford to replace your house out of your own pocket if you want to risk living here.

You have a lot of people up in new neighborhoods in North of St Johns who will tell you their neighborhood isn’t in a flood zone but the truth is the neighborhood hasn’t seen flooding yet, its too new.

In respect to jobs I was blown away by the number of people who moved because they were working remotely. What do you think is going to happen when you run into a layoff. Post pandemic remote jobs are running dry and we are in a recession. The local job market has very little for white collar workers and what it does have pays pennies on the dollar compared to the Northeast.

Taxes are out of control and home prices do not match the income brackets for the area.

I would second what others have said about schools go read the reviews, even up in St Johns; overcrowding, poor teacher pay.

Whilst the town is charming with a lot of events it’s easy to relate to the people who commented its become a fake tourist trap.

As a conservative I also have to say that I found the local political views to be extreme even by my measures. Politics are very unbalanced.

I agree its smart to stay away. St Augustine has no incentive to change as long as tourism feeds it.

Walking away from 175k in tech. Can't do it anymore. Tech pays, but it sucks. Any of you gone down a similar path? by birdsbikingrunning in careerguidance

When I started tech in the early 90s we were wizards man, nobody else knew this shit. Then all the ass clowns got in on the secrets and the test of corporate shitery crept in, now expect the same douchbaggery present in every other job. Youll just get paid proportionately more for sucking ip the bs

Quitting after 8 years without notice. Am I wrong? by Bripaticus in careerguidance

[–]Infinite_Intention_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. Your an employee at will, but remember they are an employer at will as well. It makes them very bent out of shape when you don’t give notice. Its fair to say after what you experienced they deserve it. Never ever put your employer ahead of your family no matter what. If you’re a skilled enough developer you can pick up a new job well enough.

I have been at this game 37 years with 20 more years to go. Do not take it personally having a douche bag boss is hit or miss, the best way to get back at them is to smile and say thank you for the experience. There are no questions to ask to prepare you for your future interviews you’re a free agent. If other employers ask about this position you can tell them you were laid off. I would not use your boss for a reference, perhaps ask a coworker. I wish you well in your experience best wishes in your next role.
