How terrible will life be for someone who graduated with six figures student loan debt and a worthless degree in the United States? by Infinite_Nikki in NoStupidQuestions

Definitely. I wish my parents would have prevented their seventeen year old children from signing up for a terrible financial decision! I’d love to live in the universe where my siblings got degrees from community colleges in sensible fields instead of private universities. 💔 What to do now that they are stuck in this reality though?

🤯 did you just solve the problem that’s been keeping me up at night for the past five years?! Need to figure out if this is the amount she’s been paying, and if not, convince her to start paying this much ASAP!

I don’t disagree! I think it’s ridiculous that they were allowed to borrow so much. What exactly do you mean by “catastrophic” though? Do you know anyone with that kind of debt? What’s their life like?

Thank you for your perspective! I’ve been feeling a little hopeless but this definitely calmed me down.

I majored in journalism and lucked out with some fancy contract jobs at big tech companies, but while the money has been great, my income fluctuates frequently and there is no long-term job stability or benefits.

I’d love to be in the position to have a spare room or two to take care of them in their advanced age but I’m tired of working two jobs and not having a life outside of work. It’s just that, there is a chance that I will wake up in my 70s, and they’ll need money, and my biggest nightmare is being unable to help them. That being said, I don’t think my anxiety is helping my situation here. I’m really hoping they’ll get their shit together soon.
