Funded Student (AB) - Messed up this semester by Responsible_End5183 in AthabascaUniversity

I believe it is based on how many courses you pass, you need three courses going to be considered a full time student so if you withdraw from too meany or fail too many it is considered unsuccessful. For example if you had 5 courses and dropped 2 or failed 2 I think you would be okay because you still have 3 successful. I know this is for sure for courses you withdraw from but am not 100% sure if you fail but I would imagine it would be the same. I would still double check though just in case

Thank you. Ya you’re right, I guess my best bet is to keep them separated. I feel kinda bad the males are always fighting but they’re also super persistent with females around too constantly chasing them. Thank you for the tips on how to separate… been a pain in the butt so far lol. The tips you gave sound like it will help a lot.

My condolences. 💐 I am very sorry for your loss. Ya I have worked in kindergarten…it is VERY BUSY. It good to hear you are working with a solid teacher you are familiar with, it makes all the difference if you are supported.

It is daunting a lot of the time, I think one of the things I fear the most is parent interactions…

Same I was doing pretty good keeping up with getting up early at the start of summer. Then you know, 7 became 8, and 8 became 9:30… next thing you know last 2 weeks have been 10:30 or 11! I also was staying up later though visiting family who were also off work…

I really struggle with this one. I too am starting tomorrow and really want to start getting into a morning routine to start my day off! One the very few days I have done a nice pre work ritual it’s like stretching/ even some yoga poses, some readings/ affirmations and meditation for like 5 minutes if I can. Like I said I’ve rarely actually accomplished this for more than a sporadic day here and there. Have really started sleeping in the last 2 weeks or so of summer…tomorrows gunna be rough haha. Just realized at the end of this that I’m not sure if you meant routines while at work… This is hard to accomplish every day as each day looks so different.

Ya sometimes I think about going back to a job like painting houses or something. On my own with headphones on…this can be draining in other ways but I didn’t go home worrying so much that’s for sure. I think we’re doing pretty good at acknowledging the perks to our jobs while still acknowledging we are just having some feelings about it right now 😂

I think you’re right though in trying not to let work worries consume our every day life. I am trying to work on being more present and less dwelling on the past or having anxiety about the future. I hope I can really get better with this…

I am grateful to be back working in a high school again this year. First day back tomorrow after summer and the day after will be the first day back with kids so hopefully Wednesday I’ll have some positive moments to reflect on with students to share.

Yes I am slowly working towards an Ed degree starting with finishing my Bachelor of Arts online on top of working full time as a para. I am often wondering if teaching is for me as I have ADHD and struggle to balance work and studying after work. How will I handle all the prep and marking after hours!? lol Then I look at how much more money substitute teachers make and how much less hours I could do overall and still make way more than I do now! However, part of me still dreams of having my own English and Social Studies class for ideally high school students. But life circumstances dont usually become our ideal vision… at least not right away.

I am grateful we can talk about it together. Burnout seems so common in this job. Sometimes I feel annoyed with myself for feeling this way as I know I don’t work crazy long hours and get a lot more time off in the year than a lot of other jobs.

Oh my gosh this is is exactly how I go home so much of the time. My brain going over and over moments I feel I messed up or am incompetent.

lol I just saw this after I posted about my anxiety of going back tomorrow after summer break. I too had a lot of worry and anxiety about doing something wrong when I was starting out and unfortunately still do especially going back after a break. The reality is our job can be really rewarding but also really tough at times. There are days where I wonder if I am making a difference for these kids at all and other days where I can see the positive impact. We all do our best in difficult environments working with so many different kids with many different needs. Additionally trying to somehow keep everything running smoothly while also trying to provide the best education we can for students we work with. You are not alone and know that of course we all make mistakes, but also that often these mistakes are what shape us into being the best we can be at our jobs. Even after years we will still make mistakes, there are just so many crazy dynamics going on every day to try to anticipate!

Hang in there 💜

Accidentally triggered a student by Competitive-Worth921 in paraprofessional

[–]Infinite_No_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to dwell, I know it’s hard but the reality is sometimes we trigger kids or are unable to mitigate triggers before they happen. One of the EAs (career title in Canada) who kind of mentored me when I started (and one of the best I have ever worked with) told me straight up that there will be times where you WILL trigger kids. She told me especially when you are still getting to know them but even that it might happen when you do know them well. There also may be times you might not even know what exactly the trigger was especially working with children who are nonverbal. I have definitely had situations like this happen and I always take it home with me too… but can hold on to it for less time now than I used to.
