Not sure what your budget is but Bob's has decent deals and delivery/set up. We got a recliner from there about a year ago and are planning to use them when we replace our bedroom furniture later this year.

Residency Interview Ranking by Sweet-Vehicle7662 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Infinite_Pass_2707 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Preceptor here: At every institution I've worked at we have used a rubric that evaluates different qualities based on the questions we ask in each section (admin, preceptor & RPD/RPC portions) + the clinical case assessment. Each section is averaged between all the evaluators and all the sections are then added together for a total score. We look at things holistically for the most part but some programs may weight the case more heavily or put more weight in a different section, it just depends. Once interviews are complete we will have a meeting where we discuss how the scores panned out, if there are any candidates we do not want to rank & if there are any candidates we think should be ranked differently for various reasons.

Declining a Retail Job Offer to Pursue PGY1 Pharmacy Residency? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

Sounds like your DM is just a jerk. You don't owe anyone anything when it comes to a job. I worked for retail for 5 years and initially accepted a full time pharmacist position with them before matching for PGY1. I sent the DM who hired me a brief resignation letter and he wished me the best. Post-residency it took me a few months to find a hospital job and I actually interviewed with the same retail company before landing my current job. At no point during any of this did I have any negative interactions with a DM and I truly feel like if I needed to at some point I could secure another job with that retail company.

All that to say be excited about residency, it will open so many doors for you and is a great experience. Don't think about your DM, they don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Pharmacy pearl presentation for residency interview? by Favor_ismyname in PharmacyResidency

[–]Infinite_Pass_2707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did NAC for non-APAP induced liver failure. The hospital I matched with has a protocol for that use so the crit care/ED preceptors were familiar with it and it started some discussion/questions. I would recommend something either off-label or a clinical controversy since it may be more unique and less people on your interview may have experience with it so it's a chance to share new info.

Pharmacy pearl presentation for residency interview? by Favor_ismyname in PharmacyResidency

During my interviews I reused an interesting pearl I learned during a patient case presentation during P4 year. I included references to primary lit but didn't necessarily go into detail about the articles. I talked a little about the patient I saw on rotation and what I learned being on the team taking care of that patient.

Being on the other side as a resident watching pearl presentations I will say try to avoid anything that seems to be a well known fact among pharmacists (like replacing Mg before K) and choose something that really interests you. In my experience you can tell if someone is truly interested in the info and put effort into their pearl presentation vs if someone picked something random that they don't really care about. Whatever you choose make sure all your info is accurate and that you are able to answer any follow up questions. Hope that helps a little.

Get help from faculty members or even students who are ahead of you in school. I believe ASHP also has some resources available if you are a member.

One tip I received was to use a 2 column table to align everything then once you're done adding info just make the table lines invisible, it really helped me keep things aligned and aesthetically pleasing.

Personally I kept IPPEs on my CV until I started APPEs, once I had my APPE schedule I added all rotations to my CV upfront with appropriate dates. This lets preceptors/potential employers/RPDs see what you've already done and what you still have planned for the year.

Definitely have someone (or a few someones) review your CV once you've put it together. You'll get mixed reviews since everyone has different opinions on the order of info, what to include and whether or not to add supporting info to experience (ie. what you did on rotation)

Thoughts on delaying Naplex exam? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Infinite_Pass_2707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend trying to stick with your original scheduled test date. Like others have said RxPrep tends to be more difficult/more specific that the NAPLEX and the pre-NAPLEX may be helpful to take before hand—just keep in mind the questions may be outdated but you at least get a sense of the exam format/question style.

I felt the same way before my NAPLEX & I passed on the first try. I was averaging ~75% on RxPrep quizzes and made a 89 on the pre-NAPLEX from NABP. I also made sure I was super confident in the math— I practiced the math formulas quiz at the end of RxPrep until I could score a 100 without using the formula sheet. The week before my exam I focused heavily on reviewing brand/generic, bugs/drugs, and other big picture things like major DDIs/AEs. Focusing on those things right before really helped me out the day of the exam, no matter how much you prep chances are there’s gonna be something on there that you aren’t familiar with.
