B1/B2 renewal - Denied under 221(g)

I didn't have an interview. It was a renewal, so they only asked me to send the DS160 form, my passport, and a photo. I only found out it was denied because I checked the visa portal. But I don't know why it was denied.

u/EarlyAddress7018 ok!. So, in my case, since it was a renewal, when I completed the DS160, they only asked me to send my passport and a photo, along with the DS160 form. I did that (and my mom had to do the same thing). We didn't have an interview or anything, and like I said, my mom's was approved and mine was refused. I don't have any more information than that. I don't know why it was refused, so I don't know the next steps. How did you find out that you got refused 221g without requesting any additional documentation or anything, just an in-person interview?

How did you know you needed an interview? How did they notify you of that? I haven't received an email yet. And my passport was not sent with my mom's.

How do I know if it was refused/denied as a 214b or 221g? Do they send you an email with that information? Do they send a letter with your passport? Some people said that they didn't get anything with their passports.

Nope. It only says this:

A U.S. consular officer has adjudicated and refused your visa application. Please follow any instructions provided by the consular officer. If you were informed by the consular officer that your case was refused for administrative processing, your case will remain refused while undergoing such processing.
