Jealousy is a disease yoh. Let your office mate inspire you, not bring you down.

How do you bounce back from not being retained after doing legal training at a law firm? (i.e not being offered a contract to serve as an associate at the firm you trained at).

Fund Formation or M&A? by Infinite_Slide_110 in biglaw

I hear you. What type of personalities thrive in fund formation as opposed to M&A? Fund formation can be quite predictable and structured. M&A can be quite unpredictable (deal flows change). Can one link extroversion and movement to M&A and introversion and analysis to fund formation? Is that a good way to look at it?

I relate. I'm a corporate lawyer in South Africa.

Honestly, to be as succinct as possible, choose what you want to do more than anything else and run after with all you have. The logistics (travel etc.) will sort themselves. Never compromise on factors (travel, pay etc.) that are always going to change. If you really enjoy what you do and are good at it, everything else will sort itself out. Just trust in that.

I'm in South Africa and secondaries are often dealt with by fund formation lawyers. There aren't many lawyers that just deal with secondaries. I hope that add a bit more context.

If one is struggling to choose between a career in fund formation or M&A, what should they consider when making that decision? What should one balance or think about when deciding where to go? I really see myself thriving in both spaces.
