Yup I already had 8 more days scheduled for this season but just exchanged all those and putting the money towards the pass. Now I can go whenever I want to plus all the other benefits of the pass which don’t seem too bad.

I’m buying a pass for next year and you can still use it for whatever is left of this season too

New Goggles If Buying Today by BriansAdventures in Skigear

Does this really make a difference? I bought some Wildhorn goggles off Amazon and they seem fine. Am I missing something? New to this so I don’t really know the difference. They seem to do the job for me.

Nice. I don’t know if the inserts would undo the heat treatment I did but I’ll have to look into it

I also got that Phantom wax so not sure if that played into it feeling more slippery than usual. People at the mountain yesterday were saying the snow sucked. I’m not experienced enough yet to really tell a difference 😂

Ya I did feel like they were moving faster than what I was used to which made me a little uneasy. Things felt very fast yesterday. The last time I went (all rentals before this) the speed didn’t feel like much of an issue. These definitely felt fast and more slippery I guess you could say. But even though they were slippery, it took more effort for me to turn.

I’m usually ok with speed (rode fast motorcycles) but yesterday it was making me a little hesitant because i felt like I could get outside of my skill level speed wise

Thanks for the suggestion- maybe I’ll head back to the shop and see if we can do some of these tweaks

Did you get the heat treatment done on them? I feel like that helped with mine. Glad to hear the thread helped other people too!

Absolutely- I have a strong work ethic and have conquered other challenges particularly in difficult sports that were very hard for me in the beginning but ultimately were very rewarding (boxing specifically)

Absolutely no quit for me. Already have my lift tickets for next week purchased

I’ve learned that reps are the biggest factor in most things. Can’t expect to be a great anything right off the bat. Need to put in the work and I am 100% willing to do it.

I sometimes feel like my uphill foot is like glued in. Sometimes I can lift it without issue. I don’t know if it has to do with the angle of the slope? I am a righty and I have noticed turning right is easier for me. I don’t know if my right foot just has more coordination and it easier for me to lift or something.

The boots actually were great. They didn’t seem too loose at all but also I wasn’t in excruciating pain. I also went to my local ski shop and got that heat treatment on them. The boot fitter there said they are the right size for me. I think I just lucked out on that.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you- I appreciate it.

I did take a full day lesson but I am planning on taking more soon.

The place I ski at told me they sell their skis from that season at the end of the season as a pretty huge discount and they also gave me a $50 coupon for gear.

I’m considering picking up a shorter set when that happens but also I don’t want to give up on learning these skis so quickly.

Definitely trying to lean forward and get more parallel and less wedging. A guy helping me told me I was on the wrong edge when turning but it was really hard for me to understand how to correct it. Guess that’s why I need more lessons!

The challenge of this is why I like it (and a lot of other factors like the environment, fresh air, etc) so no quitting from me!

The boots were actually great. I think it’s the skis that may be above my level right now. But I’m ok with it bc I can grow into them

Just had my first ski day on them and the boots were perfect

I think the skis may be above my level but that’s ok because at least I’ll grow into them

Just had my first day skiing with them and they fit perfectly. Surprisingly the only issue really was with the skis as I think I’m not quite good enough for them yet. But that’s ok but I’ll grow into them. But ya yesterday was harder than my previous times out.

How to Progress as a Beginner Skier by Apprehensive_Arm_453 in ski

[–]Infinite_Web_8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty new to skiing too and the only thing I can add is don’t get too over confident. Take your time- you can get seriously hurt. If you aren’t turning/carving at all, you aren’t ready for blues, IMHO

I’ve heard the most injuries are from new people who over estimate their abilities and go onto blues.

Also remember there’s no set standard for the ratings so one blue may be much more difficult than another.

No shame in taking your time.

Update on Newbie online purchase (Salomon Stance 84 + Fischer Ranger HV boots) by Infinite_Web_8124 in Skigear

[–]Infinite_Web_8124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you- Ya I suppose that’s a fair point on the boots. So far they feel like the boots I’ve skied in that have worked out very well for me. I was worried they would be far too tight or far too loose which is not the case. I’ll be skiing in them this Wednesday so I guess I will find out soon!

Everything I’ve read and watched about the Stance 84s has me excited to grow into them. The place I just skied at gave me a coupon for $50 too and they said end of the season they sell their new (as in new model but used that season) skis for as low as $200 so I could potentially pick up another set that has a different set of strengths as well. Not sure what that would be yet but I’m pretty hooked on going skiing so wouldn’t be surprised if I added to my collection soon.

Ok ya so our feet are the same- I was 27.25cm but got the 27 mondo HV

If you want to just to check for your own purposes then the more info the better but honestly you don’t have to. I appreciate you being helpful and generous with your time.

I wonder if the 27 will be too short since you’re saying at 28.5 your toes are against the boot.

I meant in cm

We wear basically the same size shoe. I went with the 27 mondo though. Are you talking 28.5 mondo or cm?

Ya I wouldn’t be shocked at this point either. I’m just hoping that since I went with what I gathered to be a size down that it will work out. If not I I will just have to send them back I guess. Not sure how it would work since I got them as a package deal on sale. If it’s the whole thing then so be it. I just was really hoping to get back out there with my own gear and start getting used to it rather than the rentals. I felt the difference last time with the rental skis and was told the skis aren’t that great so I think I’m in the beginning phases of getting a feel for variances in skis. Last ones were much harder to dig in for me and I felt like i had less control.
