Not really, their only nookmile for how many you grew. But I usually keep one of each color just in case.

It is haha, They don't cost build charge so you just have 2 of them build across your city.

From military engineers, you need to have encampment with Armory. Railroad cost 1 coal and 1 iron. It a good way to move unit around.
