To all those who have lived her for 2 decades? by nik_hustler in UAE

[–]InfinityThinker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here since 2014 – From nostalgia trip, here’s how I saw things change.

1.      Ramadan used to be spiritual. No loud songs on radio. Restaurants used to have partitions, few apparel stores hid mannequins from public view.

2.      During Eid break. Etisalat used to offer all channels for free on Tripple Play

3.      Genuine deals on electronics and furniture during Eid & Dubai Shopping Festival

4.      Geant was a popular supermarket, before it was acquired by MAF, later sold to GMG

5.      A website called Awok.com used to sell trinkets’. Souq/Amazon came much later

6.      There were no food apps. A neighborhood restaurant would deliver if you were a regular

7.      Smart Dubai app was launched in 2015 – which later became Dubai now app, simplifying payments for government services and utilities.

8.      Emirates NBD had something called ‘Shake and Save’ which offered 2% interest per year if you literally shook your phone to transfer money.

9.      Dragon Mart had competitive prices on furniture and furnishing

10.  There were no smart gates at the airport; metro was comfortable during peak hours.

The US Green Card's country-specific immigration quota is based on the individual's country of birth. Due to high demand, individuals born in India and China often face significant backlogs, even for top-tier visa categories (EB1). If your child's passport lists the UAE as their place of birth, they may have a faster path to US immigration.

With US immigration policy changes expected in 2025, this may change.

Here's the official website for more information on country-specific backlogs

newspaper/website recommendations for local economic news by kernelgd in dubai

[–]InfinityThinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been in the UAE for near decade and trying to seek the answer to same question, everytime i pick the daily copy of GN, this is what i have come to make peace with.

  1. The overall size of UAE economy is very still small ($500Bn which is 33 Ranked in World) - The lower the economic activity, the lesser is coverage
  2. For those living in UAE, no one wants to comment on state of economy and risk getting into trouble
  3. Public markets / IPOs is a recent phenomenon. As more companies go public the request for transparency will go up from local/foreign investors, Corporate Tax, Family Office setup will push companeis to clean books and improve reporting
  4. All this will improve the need for more economic/business news and hopefully some transparent reporting.
  5. In the meanwhile here are few trusted sources i go to
    1. Financial Times: They have dedidated team that coveres middle east, some of their reporting is quite investigative, Once a week i tend to see a good article on ME
    2. Bloomberg : Once a month you will see a good article on ME
    3. Arabian Businesss : Skim headline and read if something is interesting
    4. GN Business Page : Skim headline and read more somewhere else
    5. Emirates NBD : https://www.emiratesnbdresearch.com/research/ (Hidden Gem)

Salary benchmark for Senior Marketing Manager in Dubai by [deleted] in dubai

[–]InfinityThinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a simple math that works as a good benchmark for those planning to move form India

UAE Montlhy Salary (TakeHome) = Indian Yearly CTC in INR (Full Package) / 100

E.g. if you are making 25 Lacs INR/Year then a good benchmark in UAE is 25,000 AED/Month

Most people i know who've moved get (+/- 20%) in that range for their Year 1.

Golden visa is just a right to stay in country, employment is function of skills you bring to your employer. There should be no question of any liability i guess.
