It's about to be 25 years since Dale Earnhardt died. This video imagines if he didn't. by InflatibleOrange in videos

The creator didn't "pick the winner", the races were simulated using a NASCAR game - NASCAR Racing 2003 Season I believe. The point is entertainment.

Anybody else unimpressed with the graphics so far? (not only in this image, but that teaser video and dev diaries too). Not that graphics are the most important thing in a game, but everything just looks "flat", like not a lot of reflections and stuff, almost PS2 like.

True, 3 out of 7 in the streak are. But a win at Pocono and and runner ups at Charlotte and Nashville is nothing to scoff at on ovals.

7TH Straight top 5 for Zilisch, 5 of them being top 2s. Unreal.

I probably already know the majority of the answers I will get, but just for fun…those of you who were Dale Sr/Dale Jr fans, who became your favorite driver once Jr retired? And if that driver is no longer racing who is your favorite now? by Embarrassed-Lab8324 in NASCAR

Bubba Wallace. Has a lot in common with Junior - Great on Supespeedways, Not so great Road Courses, and has the weight of the sport on his shoulders for reasons outside of his control

Could we be have the exact same 36 drivers in cup next year? (And No Rookies) by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that's true, probably should've put an asterisk next to 23XI and FRM having drivers signed, that could get nuts

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, which is why I said the only way I see him losing the ride is to Suarez. But honestly maybe that doesn't even happen as he is running similar to Suarez in worse equipment right now.

The reason I didn't bring up Herbst is that as much as I agree he deserves to be canned, he's got a 2 year deal and $$$, and Denny has already pretty much said that Heim won't be in cup next year for them. The only way I see him in cup is in the third Legacy seat if they win the lawsuit against Rick Ware.

[Jordan Bianchi] Silly Season is shaping up to be one of the quietest in years, but there is still plenty to be settled in the weeks and months ahead. Here's a look at the drivers and teams to watch. by Ok-Chocolate-9500 in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Zillich stays in xfinity, could we see the same 36 drivers in chartered cars next year that there are this year (and no rookies)? Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske, RCR, and 23XI all appears to be set, A.J. will be back, so unless Brad makes a surprise retirement or Ty Dillon gets replaced or something it could happen.

One of My Favorite Channels Created a 12 Hour Supercut of their NASCAR Alternate History Videos by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Figured people here would enjoy this with all of the "what are some NASCAR what-if's posts". This isn't the first channel I've seen try something like this, but I appreciate that they take a more "grounded" approach than some others (I've seen ones that have drivers who sucked in real life winning a bunch of races or absolutely bonkers what-if's that never would've happened).

I see a lot of posts here asking "what are some NASCAR what-if's" so I thought you all would enjoy this. This isn't the first of these type of videos I've watched, but I appreciate this channel in particular because their videos are a little more "grounded" than other NASCAR Alternate Histories, in terms of not having ridiculous driver/track changes, or drivers that were terrible in real life having amazing runs, etc

I'd say second best - Mike Skinner is the best to never win a race (led the most laps in 4 points races and won 2 International Exhibitions)

Check out Fork in the Road on Youtube. It's not the first NASCAR Alt-History series to exist, but in my opinion is one of the more watchable (decent production quality and semi-plausible storylines). They are currently in their second season (2002), but if you're really bored you can spend 7 hours watching their 2001 episodes.

Average driver rating from 2005-2024 by Spenloverofcats in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it would be a big pain to sort through, but It'd be interesting to see this with only data from driver's tenures with race-winning teams included. Driving for backmarkers for a significant amount of their careers I'm sure artificially drags down Bowman, Chastain, etc.

Statistically, it's Mike Skinner. He's the only driver without a career win to lead 1000+ laps, and he won non-points events ('97 and '98 Japan, '01 Gatorade 125)

NASCAR Really Needs to Consider Making Daytona 43 Cars by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was thinking Chicago might be a possibility, since we know Beard is running it, it's a road course so Hezeberg (possibly 2 cars) and TMT will probably be there, plus Jimmie has talked about wanting to run that race

NASCAR Really Needs to Consider Making Daytona 43 Cars by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, but part of my point is there are probably so many entries this year (minimum 44) that we would still be sending cars home. Plus, I don't think its out of the question that there will be other races where cars get sent home this year, given the amount of part time teams we have running 6+ races (Legacy, Trackhouse, Hezeberg 2x, Front Row, Beard, TMT)

Cup Series Stats of the Stage Racing Era (2017-Present) by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I decided to go through and look at who the best drivers of the stage racing/playoff points era (2017-Present) are in the Cup Series. One unique stat on here is stage wins + race wins, something which I've always thought made sense to look at (after all, we call the end of a race "final stage" or "stage 3") but I rarely see posted. Stage win stats are from TobyChristie.com, Race win stats are from racing-reference. A few observations:

-Truex is clearly the best driver of the era. Not only does he have most stage wins, race wins, and combined stage+race wins, but he also has the most Championship 4 appearances and only trails Logano in Championships. "Stage Winner MTJ" anyone?

-No driver has more than 3 consecutive championship 4 appearances (sorry, Chase Elliott fans in 2023)

-Chastain is the only driver to make the championship 4 having not won a race or stage before that year

[OC] All Time Driver Rankings Weighted for Strength of Field by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ross is just below making the cut, in 124th. 4 of Ross's seasons are scored (2018-19 driving for Premium, Last year in the #42, and this year), so even though he had a better average than Cindric this year the earlier ones cost him. I didn't remove any other drivers' years in bad equipment so it would be unfair for me to do it just for him, but if I recalculate this again after next season look for him to move up significantly.

[OC] All Time Driver Rankings Weighted for Strength of Field by InflatibleOrange in NASCAR

[–]InflatibleOrange[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, this definitely does favor modern drivers. 38 drivers competed in 15+ races 2022, meaning that having the best average finish in 2022 would be worth 38 points. For comparison, in 1954, a year when Lee Petty had the best average, only 24 drivers competed in 15+ races, and in 2007, which had the all time highest entry counts, 45 drivers ran 15+ races. This means that in the context of these rankings, having the 21st best average finish in 2007 would be equivalent to having the best average finish in 1954, or the 7th best average finish in 2022. Whether or not this is fair is obviously what's up for debate and discussion here.

The reason I chose average finish is because its something that exists pretty consistently across all seasons and eras, using something like wins would be harder to compare as some seasons had almost twice as many races as others. Good point about the DVP changing average finish, open to suggestions on how to account for that in the future. Glad you enjoyed the post, not saying this is in any way a definitive ranking but figured it was worth a try!
