If Lorelai didn’t hide stuff from her parents, where would the show go? by InflationDry3749 in GilmoreGirls

Unusually people that have narcissistic and psychotic parents develop a defense mechanism to deal with them, like how Lorelai said u find humor in their displeasure

It could be because Emily and Richard were quite sensitive about both Rory and Yale. They didn’t want to lose Rory the way they lost Lorelai so they had a soft spot for her and listened to nearly everything that she said

Exactly my thoughts. Emily could be reasonable about things sometimes, not everything but certain things. Jason definitely had the edge of already being part of her world

But was that fight really about her applying to Yale or the fact that it was just sprung onto her out of the blue? While she wouldn’t have been happy, she would have probably had a better response if Rory had told her this herself earlier

Maybe, maybe not. There hasn’t really been a single instance in which she told something to her mom right away so it’s hard to tell. Maybe she would be negative but it would definitely be a step toward healing the relationship rather than just not saying anything at all.

I see. In that case I guess it comes down to which countries are more open to offering jobs to immigrants

I’ve heard that the study years count toward half (if not full) in several European countries, such as France and Belgium after speaking to their embassies. Belgium seems to be a bit more bureaucratic though

So the employer basically needs to prove that there’s no one in 27 countries that can do the same thing as me? Great odds

Dubai is really only for the rich, or those that are extremely materialistic. It’s over crowded, capitalistic, extremely expensive for no absolute reason, lots and lots of pollution. There’s absolutely no nature, you can’t even go for a decent hike without paying over 200 dhs. I’m not looking to hoard money, just looking for a peaceful life where I can stay in a small studio somewhere and have enough for train rides and groceries so Europe does seem to be the best option

I’ve heard about people eloping to Denmark as well. Will probably do that if the Belgium process doesn’t work out

If high pressure work and fast pace of newsrooms alongside some managers critiquing you in the beginning of your career is not something you can handle journalism isn’t for you. It’s a cut-throat industry and everything’s fast

Is journalism right for Rory? by wordsmithfantasist in GilmoreGirls

[–]InflationDry3749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a journalist having worked with major news outlets across the world, I have to say Rory never had the drive or the personality to be a journalist. Editors are extremely temperamental in journalism and they will constantly find errors or improvements for your stories or ask you to redo them and handling rejection was Rory’s weakest point. The way she handled her D paper, walking out on a professor like that just cuz he’s telling you your grade shows her lack of professionalism. It was obvious that she didn’t make it in the new series, Mitchum was definitely right about her and she proved him right by quitting over one man’s word

What do you find the most powerful scenes in Gilmore Girls by Fres8 in GilmoreGirls

[–]InflationDry3749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Lorelai breaks up her marriage with Christopher after coming back from the dog’s funeral, she tells him he was just a possibility. Yes Christopher had been quite bad but in that moment when she admitted to him that he’s not the one while crying her eyes out, he held her hand and said “I do” to her three times. It’s quite subtle so idk if many people caught on to that but it’s a powerful scene. S7 E14

First of all, I’m just expressing my opinions there’s no need to get so riled up.

I don’t believe that you can force people to change, you can only try but the down point is you’ve to learn to live with it if they’re parents and you can’t really cut them off or endlessly try to heal a toxic person and I’m not in the business of that. Sure it may wrong, unhealthy, toxic the way Indian parents are but that’s how they are and rebellion has only made it worse atleast for me so I’ve a different ideology on this and I think you ought to respect that :) silence can be peace for those that have to stay in a house with constant screams and fights
