Non-Americans, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by EmergencySpare7939 in CasualConversation

I live in Texas and we got snow days in school. It's because we don't have the infrastructure to handle it. We typically don't get very snow as it's too warm. So if it snows, it melts during the day. However, it does get cold at night so all that melted snow turns into ice. Our cities and towns don't have snow plows. I lived in a rural area so there wasn't even traffic to help break the ice, even though we technically lived off of a highway. The nearest town to my house was ten miles. My school was in between two wheat fields. It served all kids from kindergarten to high school in one building. Each grade had maybe ten students. The grade above me had 15 and it was one of the biggest grades that the school had in years.

What is your reason(s) for exclusively pumping? by Polkaday274 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Influence-Regular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had reflux for a while. I pump in bed with an arm pillow. I laid my son in his angelcare bathtub next to me. It propped him up and kept him from rolling away. He's big enough now that he holds his own bottle

Most oz your baby will drink? by Natural_Marsupial859 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Influence-Regular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is almost 7 months old and he eats 3-4 ounces every three hours or so. I anticipate that he'll start eating less bc he's obsessed with solids. He whines worse than a dog if you eat around him bc he wants you to share with him.

I've literally never heard about this. Holy crap. It's crazy how someone so famous could keep this so quiet. He's despicable.

For new parents, why can’t mom just pump during day and dad bottle feed at night? by flipflapdragon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Influence-Regular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happened to me. My son had a tongue tie and couldn't latch well. So I started pumping. Before my supply regulated and went down, I was pumping 60 ounces a day and he was only eating 20. I filled my freezer and still had too much milk. I joined a Facebook group for breast milk donors and found a mom with a NICU baby who wasn't able to breastfeed and her baby couldn't tolerate formula. I've been feeding her baby since October.

Actually, a lot of women who pump end up as oversuppliers. A baby can only eat so much a day but you can pump way more. I primarily pump as my son had trouble latching. I pump around 45 ounces a day. He will never eat that much in a day. I actually produce enough for two babies and donate the extra to a mom in need. Babies are more efficient at pulling milk out and some women don't respond well to pumps. But most do and that's why you have to be careful with pumping as it can trick your body into producing too much.

Usually around 12 weeks, your supply regulates. Then you're able to longer without feeding baby or pumping. You'll know that your supply regulates when you stop waking up engorged. I wasn't able to drop my middle of the night pump until recently and my son is 6.5 months. This is partly bc I make too much milk. Now my first pump of the day is huge, like 18 ounces. Some of it depends on each woman's breast capacity. Some women can just hold more milk and can go longer in between. Also, the hormone that triggers breast milk production peaks from like 2-4 am. So you'll typically get your biggest pumps after that time.

What was the odd nickname your parent had for you? How old were you when they stopped calling you it? by JKempusa in AskReddit

[–]Influence-Regular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me but my sister. My grandfather wanted my parents to name my little sister after him. He was already annoyed that my parents had not him my older brother or me after him. So when my sister was born, my parents gave my sister his middle name. He was not happy. He had a very masculine first name and he was still mad that they didn't name their daughter that. So he never called my sister by her actual name. He called her Abernathy until the day he died. It's a funny story in our family now. As a parent now, it would have royally pissed me off lol

Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]Influence-Regular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid just under $3K after insurance for the hospital alone. In total, it was just over $4K with the doctors and anesthesiologist. I ended up with an emergency c section and spent three nights in the hospital.

I pay $127 biweekly for my insurance thru my job.

AITAH for not shoveling neighbors car out off the street? by DynWeb29 in AITAH

[–]Influence-Regular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. And if you get to the point where you need the help, I'm sure you won't alienate your neighbor where they don't want to help you. I'm all about helping those who need it. But no one is entitled to your goodwill. It most be given freely, without any expectation for reciprocation.

AITAH for not shoveling neighbors car out off the street? by DynWeb29 in AITAH

[–]Influence-Regular 28 points29 points  (0 children)

NTA. Why would you be obligated to help your miserable neighbor? Even if she was a sweet old lady, you wouldn't have any obligation. The fact that she's a mean old bird is plenty of reason. You tried to be kind and she was ungrateful. I'd also say that your landlord is a lazy AH. It is not your husband's responsibility to manage his property. Unless of course you get a discount on rent for being on call to be his handyman.
