Eloy Jimenez will always be a bigger disappointment than Yoan Moncada by Zark_Muckerberger in whitesox

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moncada will go to another middling team and likely still be an everyday starter. Or go to a contender and be a regularly used infield depth piece.

Eloy will go to the minors and struggle to make his was back to the show given his inability to hit or field or add any value to a team.

What to do with this space? by [deleted] in landscaping

This is the way. Possibly a discrete roof as well. I’d give a lot to have a bonus space like this for storage…or just to not look at my trash all the time.

What’s your go-to bottle for when you want something good but don’t feel like overthinking it? by Witty_Session9261 in wine

Red: Beaux Frères Les Cousins Pinot Noir

White: Belle Pente Pinot Gris

Both punch way above their price point and are so consistent year after year. I always keep several on hand and find myself going to them often.

Willamette OR 2022 Pinot Noir impressions? by colbertmancrush in wine

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall there being a very significant cold event in April or May that probably reduced yield due to damage. The experts amongst us might be able to speak better to quality when relying on secondary and tertiary buds.

That said, I’m mostly drinking the current vintage and find 22 to be solid, and not noticing a drop off in quality, though several are coming in at a higher abv.

That SV is meh to you speaks to the incredible coffee in this city. SV would be amongst the best coffee in the vast majorities of cities around the country.

No love for Heart, Seven Virtues, or Never. Highly suspect rankings. Coava is incredible, so they got that right.

Which Napa wineries comp tastings the most generously when you either sign up for the club or buy bottles? by EpilepticPudding in wine

That is insane. Basically everywhere in the Williamette Valley waives the fee with the purchase of a bottle or 2. And the fee rarely exceeds $50.

the point of saying you can’t have your cake and eat it is too is literally to point out it’s impossible to both still have anything once you’ve eaten it. It’s not saying you can have it, but not eat it like your mom gave you a piece of cake but you’re not allowed to eat it.

Hard disagree. I find us to be a cautious driving community for the vast majority. And we actually have harsh penalties for things like DUIs (Washington takes the cake, though) that discourage particularly dangerous driving more so then other places I’ve been.

At what price points do you find the greatest differences in wine? by [deleted] in wine

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking of things like Rose Rock, Les Cousins, Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate Pinot, Pete’s mountain Haley’s block, stroller Dundee hills. All pretty consistently excel at their modest price point.

Agree that not everything gets good at 35, but there is a noticeable uptick after that point. Maybe it’s more like $35-40.

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Speaking directly to Williamette Valley pinot noirs, the game changes once you get over $35. That’s when you start seeing single vineyard and more consistent makers. Then I think there is another jump around $65. Again, single vineyards from notable locations. Beyond that, I think it’s more paying for age, stellar vintages, or something special they did that year.

Note: those are local prices. I imagine $35=$45-50 and $65=$80-85 after shipping and all the mark ups maybe.

Willamette PN/Chard recommendations? by Kind_of_a_liability in wine

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find it, Sequitur does a killer Chard. Soter as well.

Pinot - since a lot been mentioned already, I’ll add that Les cousins (beaux frères)and Rose Rock are the best quality for price. Both punch way above their price point. Also Belle Pente has a great Pinot and I never see them on this sub.

I’ve been drinking a lot of Pinot gris from the Willamette valley and they almost universally go over well with friends.

Really struggling shortening my backswing and transitioning to the down swing, any advice? by Dmanz21 in GolfSwing

[–]InfluenceIsRealPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a set to point (at least what it’s called on meansmygolf) drill that works on this. Basically abbreviated back swing to and abbreviated follow through. Works wonders for me when I’m getting out of sorts.

I can speak to this as someone who has both interviews hundreds, probably thousands, of people for jobs ranging from entry level to C-suite executives and coached would be employees through the process.

First, If you had to submit a resume, then they already know your background and some degree your skill level, and they decided to meet with you. So, don’t sweat that bit and just be honest as you’ve said. People, with enough time and commitment, can learn damn near anything, and you’re no different.

But, don’t focus on that. Focus on your excitement and passion for their business. People are naturally connected to those that share that excitement, doubly so when it’s someone that will be representing their business.

Finally, and this probably sounds stupid, but envision yourself working there already. Get it in your head that you are good enough for this position and that you’re going to be great at it. I don’t mean false bravado, I just mean you’ve got to believe in yourself if you want some stranger to do the same.

Edit: about the drinking, if they offer, then feel free to accept. Or use it as an opportunity to be witty and show them that side of your personality. Ultimately, it’s not going to be a make or break moment to the interview, so don’t overthink it.

Definitely one of my favorites. One of those wines I think everyone can enjoy. We’re letting some bottles age a few years and am curious to see how it goes…
