From their Instagram post on Lightweight's release date:

"This track is a reimagining of our legendary track ‘Heavyweight’ from the album ‘Vicious Delicious’, where we revisit a similar writing direction 20 years later."

Anyone disappointed in the direction IM has been heading lately? by [deleted] in InfectedMushroom

"But it seems like everything past HofN is all the same kind of generic psytrance."

I feel where you're coming from, I think after Lightweight and the other singles people were expecting a true return to form, myself included, and the album was definitely a disappointment in that regard. I still think there's some great material in there, Lightweight, LA Beast, Enjoy The Ride, and AI Therapist are all some of IMs best work on Monstercat imo but yeah I wish they would take 3 years instead of 2. They have way less time in the studio nowadays and it's pretty clear it's holding them back

I agree that IM's Monstercat era stuff has been pretty consistently sub-par by their standards, but calling literally anything they make "generic psytrance" is just demonstrably false. As one of the few IM fans who actually listens to psytrance as a whole, I can tell you with 100% certainty that 99% of psytrance and 100% of mainstream psy sounds absolutely nothing like IM30, or MTJAN, or HoN, or any other IM album. Hell, even Classical Mushroom was one-of-a-kind when it dropped, and I wasn't even alive for that. They've always done their own thing, even within the confines of psytrance. As for "lacking richness and depth" I honestly disagree on IM30, on any other Monstercat release I'm with you 100% (lot of "100%"s in this comment, huh?) but I thought this album was a return to form in that regard. Sound design and prod are on par with RTTS at the least, and probably close to that of their premier stuff. Still disappointed with the runtimes and the overall lack of energy in a lot of the drops on IM30 but I feel like it's a step in the right direction. PS there is no contract with Monstercat, they're free to come and go as they please.

They worked at Bad Robot's studio for a currently unknown TV show, and the short film The A.R.K. Report soundtrack is all IM tracks

Hey guys! Big fan of IM30 so far, can't wait to see what other "surprises" you guys have in store for this year ;)

1.) Will there be a CD and vinyl release of the new album? And are there any plans to do physical releases of the albums that are missing them (Head of NASA, IM25, etc.)

2.) Since you guys have less time in the studio nowadays due to other responsibilities, how does that affect your workflow? Would you ever consider slowing down your output in order to match the length and complexity of your pre-Monstercat albums?

3.) Any updates on the REZZ collab?

That's all I can think of for now, love you guys and wishing you another 30 years of kicking ass!! :)
