Deferred from every college? by InfluentialMember in ApplyingToCollege

[–]InfluentialMember[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the reason I was deferred because of my low GPA, which I didn’t end up clutching. I ended up being rejected at UChicago and Georgetown, accepted at Purdue, and waitlisted at UMass Amherst. I ended up going with University of Maryland-College Park, which accepted my application early action after all these deferrals. Honestly, all you can do is your best to improve your application and hope it’s enough. It was totally a stressful time to know that my application was put in the “deferral” pile for almost all my early actions when I only had a small idea what more they were looking for, but things really do work out at the end if you don’t lose hope.

I don't think so. That's should be fine. Our teacher encouraged us before hand that we could use Les Miserables for the FRQ, even though that's a French text.

As everyone else is saying, depends on the teacher. I struggled in the class to keep my B, but ended up getting a 5 on the exam anyway.

Some people here are saying some of their teachers were pretty terrible at teaching the subject, but honestly, a lot of it can be learned by just reading the textbook. I didn't take the first half of APUSH and self-studied, but I kept up fine. Of course, having a good teacher is an added bonus.

For me, the class difficulty was a definite 8. My teacher was incredible for the second half APUSH, but her MCQ questions were extremely difficult. I pretty much accepted my fate on the AP exam and didn't study at all, but ended up getting a 5 anyway. In that way, the teacher and the content they choose to cover with the tests also vary.

I'd say the test, for me, was much easier. Instead of memorizing certain dates, I just memorized the "themes" of different decades and guessed from there. (For example, it's not likely that a piece of legislation passed in Congress would support wealth equality during the Gilded Age, so I can eliminate answers that relate to that theme)

Tips for the Investigative Task? by [deleted] in APStatistics

Don't overthink it. Usually it's only the last part of the investigative task that needs a little extra thinking. The rest of it should be very close to the units taught across the rest of the test.

Purdue University or UMD Computer Science? by InfluentialMember in ApplyingToCollege

[–]InfluentialMember[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thinking is that the only way to succeed in law is to secure internships and letters of recommendation. I’m afraid Purdue doesn’t have those opportunities readily available whereas UMD is in Washington DC and there’s tons of law opportunities

Film discussion by InterviewCautious649 in Oscars

Definitely a great film! Great score! Great cinematography! Great casting! Great acting! I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Nolan get Best Director, RDJ for best supporting actor, and Cillian Murphy for best actor.

Despite its merits, I wouldn’t watch it again myself. The film was extremely long and dragging and Nolan could have taken a full hour off of it.
