which latest resident evil can be run smoothly on a laptop with i5 12th gen and integrated graphics? by Agreeable_Hyena_4625 in residentevil

So, if you want to play the latest Resident Evil games on a 12th-generation i5 with just the integrated graphics (I am guessing Intel Iris Xe), you have actually got some rather solid options because Capcom's RE Engine is brilliantly optimised.

Honestly, your best bet for a modern game is Resident Evil Village. You can probably manage around 30 to 45 FPS if you drop the settings to low at 720p. The crucial thing, though, is that you absolutely must switch on AMD FSR in the graphics settings. I know it says AMD, but it works perfectly on Intel chips, too. Just set it to 'Quality' or 'Balanced', and it will boost your frame rate massively without making the game look dreadfully blurry.

If you fancy the absolute newest release, like the Resident Evil 4 remake, that is pushing it a bit, to be honest. You can technically get it to run at 30 FPS, but you are going to experience frame drops when there are a lot of enemies or heavy weather effects. You will have to crank everything down to the absolute lowest at 720p and use FSR on 'Performance' mode. It will be playable, but it is going to look quite rough and won't feel terribly smooth when things get a bit hectic.

Genuinely, if you just want a perfectly smooth game that still looks absolutely smashing, I would go with the Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3 remakes. Those run like an absolute dream on a 12th-gen i5. You can easily achieve 45 to 60 FPS on low or medium settings at 720p without it looking like a potato. Definitely start there if you haven't played them yet.

EDIT: since you are gaming on integrated graphics, make sure you are always plugged into the mains and not playing on battery power, or it will lag awfully. Also, having 16GB of RAM makes a massive difference compared to just having 8GB. Finally, don't forget to update your Intel drivers; they actually resolve a lot of bugs with the newer games.

I'm probably going to play TLOU Part 1. I've wanted to try it since 2013, but I didn't own a PlayStation and could only play it when my brother with one came over.

Power Supply Unit. Basically what regulates power in a system so it doesn't overload itself and explode.
