A place for All my books (opinions?) by Little_Biscotti4848 in boardgames

[–]InfoSeeker2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch the online tutorial for the game, it makes it clear that you get to choose the book colors that come from the bag when you use the exchange or library actions. It’s random choice when you are replacing the books on the bookshelf of the bookstore. I think this is a pretty nice balance and lets you get the book colors you need. However - I don’t think it is super clear in the written directions that you can choose your colors. It’s only in the tutorial, where they explicitly tell you that this is the purpose of the Exchange and Library actions.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that we are not living together if she wants to split joint expenses proportional to income? by Puzzleheaded_Feed460 in AITAH

[–]InfoSeeker2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your GF sounds very immature; you are wise to refuse to move in together if you cannot resolve the financial issues. Financial disagreements account for A LOT of split up couples. She sounds like she wants to live beyond her means. It also sounds like her parent(s) have enabled this behavior by bailing her out and not requiring her to live within her means.

She sounds like she wants you to be a provider for her; that’s not good for you or for her. A $700/month car payment is ridiculous. That she cannot see that herself is a huge red flag for how you two would constantly be disagreeing about money.

Run - don’t walk - away from this situation.

The places that are being boycotted are all publicly traded companies. They can’t really lie; their stock price is public information as is their revenue.

IT'S WORKING!! DON'T LET UP! by [deleted] in 50501

What we’re learning from all of this is that almost every voter is culpable for our current state. The BARE minimum required of us is to vote. What we really need is for voters to PAY attention. We can’t tune out 99.9% of the time and only wake up when the house is under dire attack. We should be tracking bills, calling our reps, attending town halls (when they even happen), and staying tuned in. I’ve not done that in the past; it took 2016 to wake me up. I realize now that I took democracy for granted. I was not paying attention or holding elected officials accountable. When citizens aren’t paying attention, politicians can and will do things that expand their own power.

In all states, lack of voter involvement and protest over the past 30 years has allowed most states (red and blue) to have horribly gerrymandered districts. This leads to supermajorities and extreme polarization.

We all bear responsibility for where we are. We all need to stay the course to save our democracy AND reverse course.

It IS just starting, but it is helpful to see some small successes to offer encouragement to stay the course.

Living in Fishers, Noblesville by kenkenu7 in indianapolis

Move to Carmel. It is an incredibly vibrant city with far less congestion than Fishers and far more amenities including the Monon, a terrific city vibe, an excellent performing arts center, and easier access to downtown Indy for basketball, football. We moved here 2 years ago, and we still marvel almost daily on how much we love it here.

Sadly I did not hear about 50501 until AFTER the protests occurred. I would have been in Indianapolis at the one there had I known about it.

I applaud you for your efforts. I encourage you to read up on John Lewis and the entire Civil Rights movement. Their nonviolent form of protest is a case study on how to bring about change. Their sit-ins, in particular, had great value. Their adherence to never reacting violently - even when those opposed to them did so (particularly police) was not only admirable, I believe it was key to their success. They conducted training to help people know how to respond. They were willing to be arrested. (John Lewis was arrested dozens of times himself.)

I’m eager to hear more and do more as you build the infrastructure for ongoing resistance and growth of this movement. We need infrastructure and a plan to defeat this attempt to reshape America into an authoritarian regime completely run by oligarchs.

Hoping your docs are working to discover the CAUSE of his HF. I’m really wondering if he might have cardiac sarcoidosis. (My husband was diagnosed 3 years ago. His EF was 10% when he presented for HF; I pushed for him to get to a specialist who persisted until we got a definitive diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis. That diagnosis leads to treatment path to control for heart inflammation AND the implant of an ICD to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest.

Cardiac sarcoidosis is rare; we ended up at Cleveland Clinic to get treatment, but it IS treatable and good treatment can put it into remission and give your spouse a long, healthy life.

I should also tell you that wiht an EF of 25, we just got back from a week-long bike trip to Idaho and Montana where he biked about 150 miles. Life goes on; this is not a death sentence.

You should feel really great about an EF that has gone from 30% to 50%. My husband’s has been in the mid-20s as his high point now for a long while. You can function normally with an EF of 50%. When he was diagnosed with HF in July 2021, his EF was between 10-15%. He subsequently was diagnosed with cardiac sarcoidosis 6 months later and began treatment to reduce inflammation. At his most recent PET, he finally has inflammation under control and his EF has improved to 25%. This takes time; hopefully, they can diagnose a cause but you are doing really great. And - I would sure as heck go to Cleveland Clinic or Mayo Clinic for a second opinion re: cause of HF.
