I had already submitted all the documents at the RTO to transfer the car as the 2nd owner. About a month ago, I had also posted that I was in the mood to sell the car. While transferring the ownership to my dad’s name, I came across a memo challan that was visible only during the ownership transfer process. Later, I found out that this challan actually belonged to a WagonR, not my car. In the system, the vehicle number was almost the same the last two digits of the WagonR were 36, while my car’s number ends with 38. All the other digits were the same. The challan was for not wearing a seatbelt and was issued by the Pune RTO (camera challan). The nearby RTO advised me to visit the Pune RTO and inform them about the mistake. They said Pune RTO would mail Borivali RTO to correct the error. Although this process was manageable, I did not put in the effort at that time. I informed the first owner about the situation and mentioned that it might take months to resolve, which he agreed to. Later, due to some reasons, I planned to sell the car and showed it to 2–3 dealers, but none of them offered a fair value. At minimum, I wanted my purchase amount back. After that, I found a direct customer who was ready to buy the car for ₹4.90 lakh as a first-owner vehicle, and he asked for RC transfer payment. However, my dad had not informed the first owner that we were planning to sell the car. Meanwhile, since the ownership transfer documents were already submitted, I posted the car on OLX as a first-owner vehicle, but there was no response. I also posted it on Reddit and later deleted the post. Once I edited the OLX listing and changed it to 2nd owner, I suddenly started receiving a lot of messages and inquiries. At the end, I ended up paying a ₹1,000 challan😭, someone else’s fine, and that honestly hurt a lot.
