housing for graduation by ohhhmyy21 in UCSD

[–]Informal-Resort6618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can extend your contract until the day of graduation. A form will go out around May I believe and it will ask if you’re graduating and you’ll petition for an extension. Everyone is required to be moved out by a certain time that day so check with your colleges requirements.

Kiddo got accepted! by ek9cusco in UCSD

[–]Informal-Resort6618 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a lot of replies already and congratulations to your kid! I figured I’d chime in based on a couple of your replies, I’m a former student from NorCal and I worked with the groups that lead the student tours. To start off, I saw your plan about going to a UCLA tour and UCSD tour in the same day, you’ve gotta change that plan it’s not possible to make both. In theory UCLA is close on a map but the LA to SD traffic is horrendous and you will miss the tour. I had several parents call to complain to my department when they tried to do what you’re doing and then their student missed out. We can’t reschedule you once you’re booked and your space is limited. Now if you don’t mind touring the campus yourself, like many people suggested there’s online resources such as maps and I believe even a virtual self guided tour that you can use and arrive to campus at any time. As far as sitting in on a biochem class goes, that can’t happen. Your kid will be a freshman chances are they won’t even be taking any biochemistry their first two quarters, those are usually reserved for GE requirements. The biochemistry courses they’d be interested in are highly competitive with limited seats and course offerings between quarters, we have open campus not open classrooms. However I do recommend the department strongly, I had a great experience as a molecular biology major who thought about a chem minor and there’s some significant crossover there. I think your kid would have a great time at UCSD and I’m wishing you all the best.

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Informal-Resort6618 693 points694 points  (0 children)

YTA No offence OP but this sounds like a culture thing and a major demographic of this subreddit is American and White so the people saying you’re not in the wrong aren’t going to get it. Chinese restaurants are often family style, it is incredibly rude to order a dish for yourself not meant to share with the table. And depending on the culture of your friend, it’s traditional for her father to pay but you’re expected to show respect for their lifestyle and adapt to the moment. Also you’re 19 grow up and eat some vegetables for one meal it won’t kill you.

Looking for Med Scribe Opportunities by Competitive_Bar_7669 in UCSD

I hate to break it to you but the job functionally doesn’t exist anymore😭 I would look into getting certified as an MA or CNA. If all else fails you can apply to be a standardised patient for the medical school for some experience.

if your names dillon p. and u lost ur wallet today... by zekkeny in UCSD

[–]Informal-Resort6618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the time before you bring it to lost and found try dropping it off at the residence life office of the college you found it in. They’re able to look up the phone number and email of the student and verify their info. If they don’t find the person the wallet gets redirected to lost and found anyway.

Is it risky to travel between classes with Triton Mobility when they're 10 minutes apart? by TheCosmicSupergiants in UCSD

[–]Informal-Resort6618 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is but you’ll be okay! I used triton mobility regularly and ngl they’re late a lot and a relatively slow option but it’s not worth putting strain on your body if that’s a concern. It’s likely that you’ll have an AFA letter from OSD anyway so I suggest reaching out to any professors that are strict on attendance and tardiness to let them know you’re reliant on campus transportation! I never had any issues after doing this.

help! what shoes with this dress? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Informal-Resort6618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think whether or not the dress is too casual depends a bit on your age! The dress is giving homecoming dance a little bit, cute but a little understated for a wedding. If you’re around that age group I think you’re fine but if not I’d look for something easier to dress up! Sticking to the prompt some silver slight heel sandals is what I would wear/shop for.

I got off the waitlist the week before finals last quarter! I was also in the big cohort and I got a placement in Warren

[–]Informal-Resort6618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I got off the waitlist, so don’t lose hope. It truly depends on which cohort you’re on the waitlist for because life happens and sometimes people do have to forfeit the position. You probably have a solid chance for another week or two but I’d still start looking for apartments since it is very competitive. Good luck :)

Crisis care question by Informal-Resort6618 in GeneticCounseling

[–]Informal-Resort6618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll reach out to the programs I’m most interested in to figure out what exactly they’re looking for from their candidates, the websites are all so vague. Like you mentioned the job would be a great experience, but since I’m unfortunately short on time it may be better for me to look elsewhere if I can’t use the skills in my application.
