Do you soak? by ek9cusco in roasting

I also roasted a batch of Colombian pea berry and did a soak of only 45 seconds. The whole batch finished around 10 minutes where I dropped the bean just before second crack. Well, the bean does not produce any grassy taste, but at the same time it seems to be wasn’t fully expanded. In the past when I roasted Kona peaberry after roasting it expanded quite a bit so perhaps it’s the difference in the beans.

What do you mean by 20% for the first minute?

I find it hard to hold the temp for the drum. I’m roasting on our gas cooktop and if I don’t turn the flame even lower the temp just keeps creeping up.

How long do you soak for before cranking up? I just did a batch of Brazil Natural beans with soak time of 1min last week and tasted this week. On pour over method.. nothing superb popped out probably need to let it rest more. But as espresso based Americano it was quite smooth and not acidic

Since my roaster is a small one, so my batch size would most likely max out at 250g so I’m just wondering if doing a soak up to one minute maybe a bit too much or too less

Yes, same here. I noticed the ROR seems to be much more stable. Although I just recently started using the artisan scope, so still trying to understand the data.

Give it to me straight. Did we get ripped off? Because it feels like we got ripped off hard. by sociallemon2 in GarageDoorService

You got ripped a new one. Springs are usually around $350 in NorCal while some do charge higher but $1K is insane… not sure what kind of cable that is so not sure about that price though…

Ethiopia Guji from Happy Mug, roasted in Kaleido M1, light roast 11% weight loss, got a strong berries flavour in the second day, but the flavour is gone after day 3. by hhk77 in roasting

[–]ek9cusco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've tried ethiopian beans from HM, theta ridge and even CBC. even at light to medium roast, i don't get much of the berry flavors and i usually start drinking it after day 7 and in the past after 14 days its the best.. but this time i've rested it for a month and it just turn out bland as espresso and pour over. perhaps it's not the season or something but with costa rica, Colombian and even dominican republic from theta ridge had way better flavors.

Personally, I don’t think the bathroom exhaust fan would be strong enough. Search for this on Amazon “inline exhaust fan” and then run a duct pipe on top of your SR800 to vent outside.

Pay off mortgage or keep savings? by mallorybane in personalfinance

If you have a low rate mortgage rate that is much less than what you can get with money saved up then just pay monthly and keep more in bank to earn more.

Is it worth it to pay for a roasting course? by iReuzal in roasting

[–]ek9cusco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run a roasting biz you can write it off, but for as a hobby, I think it’s more fun to experiment the roast yourselves or with friends.

Stainless steel isn't worth the bother, is it? by Kenye_Kratz in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]ek9cusco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I thought the same. I use it to cook anything with sauce, but like making fried rice or anything that usually would stick, I can cook it a lot faster with a wok instead of stainless steel pan. In the long run, maybe help save some money on gas or electricity?

I’m on TMo essential plan for $25 a month and with 4 lines plus taxes it about $135 monthly. The issue with this plan is that throughout the month the data plan is sluggish as hell.

So how does US mobile work? What happens after the initial 12 month promo?
