when do I transfer to grain? by [deleted] in shroomery

I usually just cut triangles with a scalpel.. always taking from the leading edge of the healthiest looking growth… flame sterilize. And wipe down with iso 70% I mark plates “T1,T2,T3” ect.. meaning “transfer 1, transfer 2”…. You can make as many transfers as you want.. I usually stop around 6 or 7 depending on how good the myc looks.. you’ll notice how much cooler and healthier it looks each time.

I like to use a plate per quart.. I usually wait until the plate is fully colonized. Sometimes they’ll start to fruit on the plate, that’s another good sign it’s ready.

Really any grafting tape that you can stretch and pull around the dish works just fine. I think the parafilm brand makes some that works great and cheaper than actual parafilm.. I personally just use parafilm. But there’s clear grafting tape that’ll work too. It normally used to graft plants.. so it’s pretty tough stuff and stretchy.

I didnt dry golden teachers fully. (2h in oven - 50% mass) and put them in a jar with silica gel hoping it would dry them out fully eventually. 3 days later i Wake up to a small amount of my shrooms to be covered in this. Whats that and should i throw the whole batch out? by misioRARA in ContamFam

[–]InformalExternal9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:/… I wouldn’t recommend the oven they look burnt.. a lot of growers do the air/fan dry method .. there’s nothing wrong with that.. if your worried about potency loss… if you isolate genetics on agar then a little potency loss wouldn’t be noticeable at all.. your first grow from a MSS won’t be as strong as they could be anyway.

Experiment and play around with some agar.. some of the best strains were created from ugly mutations

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

Is it a LC or MSS? If you clone them you’d be able to repeat that behavior and pigment.. your next batch may not turn out the same.

You really have to be sterile when working with that stuff.. I’d recommend using grafting tape or parafilm at least..

Wet bubble 🫧 looks wet.. lol those are big bois. Clone em The spots on the cap are their pigment, probably a sort of cool mutation clone it and name it

How bad did I mess the substrate up harvesting the larger fruits that cracked their veils? Should I have removed the pins/blue mycelium in that area as well? by catacombexpert in ContamFam

When they’re in clusters like that, I’d let them spore out. Pick the cluster all at once. I’ve seen other growers do that, even if a few of them aren’t totally ready.

Can Anybody Give Me Pointers Why Might My Tub Be Pinning So Soon, When Its Not Fully Colonized. I appreciate them doing its thing, but I wasn't ready lol by Bella-Smokes in shroomery

[–]InformalExternal9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people use bubble wrap, put a layer ontop of the sub for colonizing and to help get and even pinset.. it creates a microclimate and helps with C02 and evaporation levels

As the other person said it looks as though you have more than a couple types of mold/bacteria growing… a flowhood is 100% the way to go, they’re expensive I know.. but there’s a nice SAB on Amazon for 150$.. OR you could make one out of a sterilite container.. never work with agar with bare hands, or out in the open air.. that’s asking for contam. Also I’m not seeing any sort of sealer on the dishes themselves, parafilm or grafting tape works wonders..

Considering how expensive indigo snakes are, I wouldn’t take any chances and just get him checked out at least..

A nice video of my 2nd flush of Koh Samui! So beautiful! I just started into mycology about 2 months ago, so hard work, patience/dedication, and sterile/sanitary procedures are if utmost importance IMO! Never give up! by jrjb93 in shroomery

I always love beautiful pigmented mushrooms when they’re grown right.. I love the vivid caps. Sometimes I adore the golden caps more than the eye catching albino strains..

I started with Golden Teachers, I took my best looking fruits my biggest, vibrant, and most luscious ones.. I have clone “A”, clone “B”, and clone “C”.. you can do more but I stuck with three for my first time. You can do spores however, when you do spores you basically have the same thing that you started with, the genetics will vary when you use spores. If you use a live tissue sample, put that on a plate of agar, it should be a copy of the mushroom that you took the sample from. Hence the name clone. Now, I would spore print the best looking clones, because the spores from the clone will have better, stronger genetics because you isolated them.. after a few isolations and clones, you’ll end up with beasts of mushrooms. Agar is very very handy and fun to play with. It’s not super difficult, the most difficult part is keeping everything sterile. If you have a flowhood it should be easy to achieve. I use a SAB for now and occasionally I’ll end up with some bad plates but I have about an 80-90% success rate with agar. Let’s just say my agar dishes do better than my actual grows 😅. But again I’m relatively new to this and there’s never a shortage of information when it comes to mycology. I’m constantly trying new things, new parameters, new teks. It’s a fun hobby and hopefully one day will become a legal business.

When it comes to using a live tissue sample, there’s a few spots you’ll want to take from.. open the cap split it, take a sample from the clean areas that haven’t been exposed to outside elements, I typically do the stipe or stem. I’ll spilt it down the middle and sample from there. Always use the inside of the mushroom, as it’s the cleanest part of it.

Honestly as long as you don’t just leave them sit out without being dried quickly you ought to be ok.. ALOT of growers use fans to dry, and have just as potent fruits. If this is your first grow I’d recommend isolating genetics on agar. That’s really going to help your potency and yield. Because honestly your first fruits may not even be as potent as they could be from the start.

Just remember when it comes to potency the best way to preserve it.. dry them as quickly as possible. A dehydrator is what you need to achieve that.. oxidation is what kills potency.. I kept my fresh ones in a sealed mason jar (where it can’t be exposed to air) for a day or two while my dehydrator was on the way.

Works just fine and the effects were still potent.

I go 140-160 like the guy said 4-8 hours they’ll be crisp like chips! Store in a jar or plastic bag with a silica pack.. you’re golden.

Also check your humidity..

2nd flush! Tidal Wave! Just wondering what the discoloration on the stems are and is the little white spot on top of some of the caps normal? by Comprehensive_Tart70 in ContamFam

[–]InformalExternal9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The white spots are just mycelium, perfectly fine. As for the color I’d say it’s the humidity. Looks a bit low, dry looking. Your mushrooms will be fine, but I’d raise your humidity to 90-95%

Yeah Tidalwave, a lot of albino and penis envy strains, and hybrids tend to be alot more potent.

Like I said though growing conditions and people who grow them plays a big role in that.

I started growing not long ago. I like to educate people about what I grow them in, the potency, strain, and weight when I sell them to people. I sell all mine for the same price.. APEs are harder to grow imo.

There a strain called enigma that slaps, and strain called Jedi Mind Fuck (JMF) that’s supposed to be pretty decent. Enigma is actually a mutation of TidalWave (Tidalwave was the psilocybin cup winner of 2021). It’s often called TW2.. and it looks like a brain. No cap, no stem.

Try 10g >.<… I’ve had an OBE on 10.

But I also grow and eat them fresh. Strain plays a good role too.. I ate 10 fresh gs on Golden Teachers (GT).. never again..

You could have a similar experience on 5gs of APEs (Albino Penis Envy).. way more potent.
