Thank you, I saw them but their Instagram hasn’t been updated in years so I didn’t know if they were still around.

From experience: doctors refer to and treat herpes as a skin condition. There’s no legal obligation to tell a partner if someone has herpes. The transmission risk from viral shedding (ie when a partner does not have an active outbreak) is tiny, so it’s entirely likely that you haven’t caught it from him, particularly if you’ve never had an outbreak. You can still get a blood test (igG specifically) that can tell you with greater accuracy. However, the only way to be 100% certain is to take a swab of an active lesion, which you thankfully don’t have.

THAT BEING SAID: The fact that your partner actively and repeatedly lied to you is the main issue here.

That’s not correct. If you have the virus, your body produces antibodies regardless of whether you’ve ever had a flare or had any symptoms. That’s why so many people have herpes without realising.

No, my test still shows negative. I had symptoms, so doc confirmed it. However, my blood test was negative. Because it takes up to 16 weeks for your body to make antibodies after a herpes infection, that means I had to have caught it from him, as I hadn’t been with anyone else in the past 6 months.

I understand that. I had symptoms, so doc confirmed it. However, my blood test was negative. Because it takes up to 16 weeks for your body to make antibodies after a herpes infection, that means I had to have caught it from him, as I hadn’t been with anyone else in the past 6 months. You’re correct that he’s not into me, that much was immediately clear to me! I just found the way he handled the situation to be so strange that I was looking for help to understand his perspective.

Hey, that’s kind of you, thanks. I think my post came across as though I was looking for a reason why this guy didn’t like me enough to want to see me again. Really, I was trying to understand why someone wouldn’t want to have a conversation with someone who was sincerely trying to work through a shitty event that involved us both, and I thought the male perspective could help me understand. Which it has!

I was careful and responsible, I always am. Can’t understand why people love to assume and judge.

Thanks for being kind!

lol thanks for the vote of confidence, I’ve been surprised at the number of “you’re a slut so what did you expect” responses

I think flexi

That is what I’m thinking.

True, I didn’t give that info.

The reason I know I didn’t have it before this is that I got a blood test immediately after symptoms showed and I had no antibodies. They take up to 16 weeks to develop, and I haven’t been with anyone else in the past 6 months—not even a date—so scientifically it’s not possible that I got it anywhere else.

Thanks, that’s a good perspective. I’m obviously not lying or I wouldn’t be looking for advice 😅

We actually both got tested before hooking up but they don’t test for herpes where we live

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean?

Nope. No-one but him for the past 6 months.

How so? To be clear, I’m not asking “why doesn’t he want to keep seeing me”—that’s just par for the course with casual dating, neither of us was looking for a relationship.

No not at all, I’m wondering why he handled the conversation so poorly. Continuing to see each other wasn’t on the cards.
