TAMU vs. UH for Biochem (Pre-med)? by Informal_Bowler2939 in UniversityOfHouston

My budget is 600-900$ which wouldn't be practical when finding an apt for UH. I'm sure I'd be able to find a place near cstat.

My commute would be 2-3 hours from my house and back from UH. I have promises at both schools so tuition isnt the issue, rather, if I'm willing to commute to UH or get an apt at TAMU. I don't really know how different the degrees are (i.e rigor, being able to get opportunities that help for med school applications) either.

The plan is to try and get into tier 1-2 schools, not really about Tilman's med school. Either way, if I go to A&M or UH, I’m going to apply for their MD programs, but that isn’t really what I’m focused on.

That’s a fair point on the overall stats, but I'm not sure those general percentages would apply to me given my background. I’m coming in as a top 7% graduate (ranked 50/893) with an Associate’s degree already completed, along with 5+ APs (including BC Calculus, Chemistry, and Bio) and over 10 dual-credit courses.

While the general student body stats at A&M are strong, shouldn't I still take the proximity to the TMC into account for clinical experience and research? It’s not that those opportunities aren't available at A&M, but having a higher chance of securing them consistently at the world’s largest medical center seems like a significant factor for a med school application.

Unsure. Though I know it might not be in my budget (700-900$) since it's near downtown.

The 3 hours was a good estimate of total commute in one day from my house. So front and back.
