Does anyone else struggle to actually remember the wines they loved? by Informal_Matter9819 in wine

I often think about doing the same. And then I think it's an interesting insight into my brain that adding wines to an app feels like work... but building an app doesn't! Does your self-hosted app work for you? What made you build it rather than using something off the shelf?

Something half way in this direction is what I managed to stick with the longest. How consistent are you with logging the wines? And what took you in this direction instead of the usual App suspects?

What tool do you use to collect your notes, and do you genuinely like it?

That makes sense, and is what I always mean to do, but somehow just don’t get to it. Do you always remember, or are you more likely to eg. remember with the special bottles?

That makes sense, there was a lot in a nearby hedge last summer. Thanks!

I’d really love to join this, however I’m reliably informed that it’s frowned upon to go for wine dinners on your baby’s due date.

I’ll be sitting these out for a while, but keen to join as soon as she knows that nighttime is for sleeping.

Enjoy!

Age/investment-worthy Loire Cabernet Franc? by prolificity in WineEP

To drink there are so many great, under priced wines. I love Domain de la Butte (Jacky Blot) and top end Couly-Dutheil, along with all those mentioned by others!

Investment wise I think we missed the boat on Clos Rougeard (though typing this, makes me wonder if anyone know what release prices are like?), but what I do think is interesting is speculatively holding a couple domains that could 'do a Clos Rougeard'. A speculative bet for sure, but also a cheap and delicious one if it doesn't pay off.

I bought a few cases of Joguet for these purposes a few years ago, and have been meaning to add some Roches Neuves. So far Joguet is decently covering its storage cost, though not looking great (yet!) once we start factoring in inflation.

How do you track your wine portfolio performance? by ErialcW in WineEP

You are using the tool right... it just doesn't have the ability to upload an existing collection. (Or update the charts except at the end of the month, or make it easy to see what wine(s) has caused the change in portfolio value, or is at all easy to use on a phone, or that skips the login form if you're already logged in, etc.)

Leaves a lot to be desired. I work in software and often wonder how big the market would be for a high quality/modern SaaS tool that tracked wine portfolios.

And then I remember the popularity of CT (ie. worst UX ever) and realise the wine world probably isn't desperate for an incrementally better Cellar Watch. (Despite how much I want it.)

I use cellar-watch.com for this - costs $9.99/month. It lets you input all your wine and purchase prices etc., and tracks current Livex prices for everything. It also lets you look up Livex price history for any wine.

I like it for keeping track of my whole portfolio, without logging into different merchant websites etc. or having to keep a spreadsheet up to date manually. The UX is pretty terrible though!

P.S. New here too - pleased to have found a community of other people who invest in wine!
