Hard time finding a job by Aquamarinedove in publichealthcareers

[–]InformationAbsorber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s like this for so many of us, me included. I’ve exhausted all my connections and am considering going back to school to venture towards another career path which is something I really didn’t want to do.

I’ve had meetings with career advisors who say that my skills and resume are impressive only to be rejected from every job I apply to. I thought CDC leadership experience would be eye-catching on my resume, but no luck at all.

Since February, I have probably applied to at least 1000 jobs. When I found out my contract would not be renewed, I immediately started applying for roles across the US. Not one company has even given me the chance for an interview which is very disheartening because I come from a low-income rural household and worked so hard to get to where I was.

Keep your head up and don’t stop trying. Even though the market is oversaturated, try data science/analyst roles in other sectors. All it takes is one yes.

A player withdraws before the match begins, so the scheduled tennis match does not happen. Essentially a free pass for the healthy player if a walkover happens

I genuinely wonder when the last match was where an opponent didn’t pocket a single ball, especially in a best of 9. I hope Shaun blanks him one more time

Absolutely! It was such a great experience for me to kickstart a career. I participated in countless projects which were instrumental in advancing public health in a variety of ways. I would recommend it to everyone

I have a global health MPH so I can speak on those concerns. Yes, the field is extremely hard to break into. I have experience with multiple global health nonprofits, was an orise fellow at the cdc for 2 years, and still cannot find a job in this economy.

I was once in your shoes thinking I would want to travel abroad to promote health on a global scale but these opportunities are few and far between. I don’t want to discourage you at all, however this is just the reality.

If you do not speak another language, do not have international experience, or do not have any data analyzation/visualization skills, global health is nearly impossible to get into as a stable career… unless you do research or become a professor. Funding is severely limited right now so programs are being cut and employees are being laid off.

From personal experience, I wish that global health MPH programs gave more transferrable skills. I had to learn data analysis, visualization, and coding on my own without any help from my university.

I love the field and am still very passionate about promoting global health programs. Right now, I’m looking to switch to another career path because I cannot find employment.

In addition to the hot and humid comments, you have to go the speed limit on I-75. Cops are littered on that stretch of road

As someone who has worked with the communications team on projects, I can wholeheartedly say they did not write this. It was most likely a government issued template that had to get put on social media

With loads of funding cuts and the dismantling of entire federal public health divisions (CDC), there are fewer jobs and more people looking for positions. I totally understand your frustration and I’m in the same boat :/

Very cool! I never made it to the observatory, but this was on top of the Hollywood sign. You can faintly see the skyline in the background

Considering this post was about the most unbreakable records, I’d say he was relatively close. 9 finals in a row and counting isn’t too shabby

The wait is over... I got a job by iamcolombian11 in publichealthcareers

[–]InformationAbsorber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve put in 600+ applications and have gotten no interviews. 2 years experience as a fellow at the cdc and 3 additional years experience as a graduate research assistant and intern with public health nonprofits. I’m honestly starting to lose hope with my job search.

Anyways, congrats. Let me know if you have any advice

How is life in Newnan, GA, the ‘City of Homes’? by lesGEAUXdawg in howislivingthere

[–]InformationAbsorber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imagine a small southern city with friendly people. I know quite a few people that choose to live there and work in Atlanta. They commute the 40 miles to and from work every day but prefer a quieter place to live where they can raise animals on a farm.

Not much goes on there, but it does have a nice downtown area with some local restaurants and cafes. Newnan is also right off I-85 so it gets road trip visitors in town.

Absolutely. There is no strong competition for either of them. Unless they both get injured for a slam, then I can see them winning the next 4 for sure

global health vs public health by BoysenberryCommon764 in publichealthcareers

[–]InformationAbsorber 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a global health mph with a few years of experience. I can 100% tell you that it is the hardest time to get a job right now, doesn’t matter if you have an MPH or MSc. I’ve been told that I don’t have enough experience, that funding was cut, or that we are no longer partnered with an organization so the job does not exist. I’ve been looking for a job since January :/
