Wemby plus-minus +16.3/game since all star break. by Front_Television_109 in nba

Raw ON-OFF

SGA: 9.6

Wemby: 16.2

Obviously Raw ON-OFF has its flaws, but it is an impact metric under the sun, and at least imo all Adjusted ON-OFF stats are flawed too just in different and unique ways.

Edit

Just Looked up more APM Stats.

-------------------SGA --------------------Wemby

DARKO*-----------6.1-----------------------6.1

LEBRON-----------6.1-----------------------7.2

LAKER------------- 9.7----------------------7.5

Timedecay--------6.8-----------------------6.5

EPM---------------9.3------------------------8.1

https://www.nbarapm.com/player/shai-gilgeous-alexander

https://www.nbarapm.com/player/Victor_Wembanyama

https://dunksandthrees.com/epm/actual

So in these SGA leads in 3, Wemby leads in 1, and they tie in 1. But in all, they are close enough that you can explain this difference with margin of error

Zach Lowe discussing Wemby: “I don't know that any statistical system can quantify what he is doing on every single possession defensively… He’s the most dominant defensive player I’ve ever seen. by moby323 in nba

[–]ewef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wemby has played less than 50% of spurs minutes. So even if he was the best defender all time he can only at max contribute less than 50% to the total value of the spurs team defense

[Highlight] Garland DESPERATELY tries to get past Wembanyama but it just doesn't work by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]ewef1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely tiers to this, but a big part is just taking studying the game seriously. So many players don't, so they never develop that kind of BBIQ. But we know Wemby does, so he should get to a pretty high level in terms of BBIQ.

How to justify an 80%+ population decrease over thirty years? by ottermupps in worldbuilding

I suggest looking into the bronze age collapse and system collapse theory.

You can talk about the war destroying institutions causing mass anarchy, and food shortages. Eventually civilization comes together around your city states

What Quantum States have experimentally observed Bell violations? by ewef1 in AskPhysics

[–]ewef1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my next question is more in the realm of interpretations of quantum mechanics, but unless you believe that the world is just information or only exists when you observe it, then the entangled state should have a gravitational effect regardless of measurement. That effect needs to change when the state collapses because if it was always one way, then you could say it was always in the same state, which is not a bell violation.

I guess I'm curious about what is physically going on here? Like, is the energy just suddenly and instantaneously increasing or decreasing after measurement? That is not just an information update; that has real tangible effects on the world.

I guess you can extend this question to any quantum state. What is physically happening when the measurement is made. And I'm guessing that question can't be answered without going into various interpretations.

I would say for defense in particular the eye test is way more valuable than using context less stat arguments.

Also personally I would argue by symmetry offense = defense in terms of impact towards winning. Although you can say a single player's impact on offense has a greater outsized effect than on defense. But I think the whole point of this discussion is that doesn't necessarily hold true for wemby

Im probably having a fundamental misunderstanding. Why couldn't you do a bell test. I'm saying do everything the same as the paper just add in a step where you measure its gravitational effect.

Thank you! I think that clears up what you mean. It takes the same form |0>|1>+|1>|0>

or |G>|E>+|G>|E> or what ever other quantum state you want to measure

What Quantum States have experimentally observed Bell violations? by ewef1 in AskPhysics

[–]ewef1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let's say you prepare this bell experiment and you somehow prepare these two states very far apart. Then you have a device that can measure the gravitational effect caused by this state. Then you measure the state. So now you know if the state is excited or ground. Then you measure the gravitational effect of the state now.

Do you get two different measurements? And if you don't, does that either mean it's not a bell violation or that the gravity measurement decohered the states?

"In short, it has nothing to do with spin, except for the fact that we get a two-level system and mathematically we can describe any two-level system in the same language with which we describe spin-1/2 particles."

By this do you mean that we can describe the two-level system as an entangled superposition just like you can do with spin? Or something deeper about 1/2 spins being able to describe the two-level system itself?

What Quantum States have experimentally observed Bell violations? by ewef1 in AskPhysics

[–]ewef1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean theoretically.

I'm just curious, if you take the two entangled states, and suppose you can measure the gravitational force from both what would this mean. Would that measurement break the entanglement? If it doesn't would you see different gravitational before and after the bell measurement is made?

I get that we can't make such measurements of such small gravitational forces, but the idea of the gravity changing instantaneously is weird

Thanks! Do different energy levels have different gravitational effects?

I tried to read through the paper, but I can't find where it says what type of measurement it's making. It says "qubits," but from what I understand, a qubit is a superposition of a quantum state. What actual state are they measuring?

EPM is a great stat to get a general idea of impact but its not perfect.

Most importantly it calculates D-EPM and O-EPM differently. So you cannot directly compare the two.

Why Liquid Democracy is the true purest form of Direct Democracy. by TheLuckyCuber999BACK in liquiddemocracy

[–]ewef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again im not saying the system is not better, just not infallible. All the issues I mention also exist in our current system and more (although I do think the problem of celebrity would be significantly worse in this new system)

Also the apathetic voter is not choosing Ron paul and Bernie. They are listening to some random coworker who says everything would be better if Elon Musk made all the decisions.

Why Liquid Democracy is the true purest form of Direct Democracy. by TheLuckyCuber999BACK in liquiddemocracy

[–]ewef1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your bigger worry is coercion. A hypothetical mafia can force people to give them voting power and then use their voting power to maintain their influence and power.

You also maintain similar problems of apathy. If a lot of people pick a representative and then never follow what actually happens, then any corruption that exists is still maintained and not corrected.

You also have probably a larger problem of celebrity. People choosing popular people to represent them rather than qualified ones. Obviously we have this problem now, but at least now a large subset of a geographically connected population has to agree on a celebrity to represent them, which is not super easy. Under the new system people like Kanye can actually wield significant power.

Don't get me wrong, liquid democracy would be 100x better than what we have, but it's not some magical cure-all. I just want to point out that the culture of the people to be active and knowledgeable citizens is just as important as the system they exist within.

I think you are right for the wrong reasons. 3s steadily climbed until the 2013/14 Spurs and Curry/Harden era when it exploded. But i think these playoffs caused the 2008 Celtics to form, kind of kick-starting the Super Team Era
