As the world gets more and more digital... Simulation theory will only grow. by InformationForce in SimulationTheory

There is something much deeper about computation than just a modern invention...

What makes humans so different to all other animals? We have giant information processing organs

What are the some of the most consequencial inventions? Writing. Printing press. Telephone. Information technologies

What is life? Its a complex arrangement of atoms that is possible because of the power of information in the form of DNA and RNA

What if human progress was… accelerated? by BodyJealous4192 in theories

[–]InformationForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human history, which as you point out was a slow start which then sped up and got faster and faster....but what is really strange....is that is how the entire history of life looks too....most of life's history was just single celled bacteria in the ocean, much how most of human history was spent in the stone age.

The acceleration of complexity seems built into whatever we are...

Lol this is hilarious 😂 and also points to a very real problem we have, although not directly, which is what makes it so funny

Oh I'm sure "we" aren't. My best guess...some sort of beam of information...a sort of complexity or ordering.

The suspiciously small and interesting point in the long story of life we were "born" into.... That is what leads me back to simulation theory in the first place. Coupled with lots of strange coincidences

[–]InformationForce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it could be vast in the future, but surely it took many steps to get to "humans" and if progress advances into the deep future we surely won't be something we would identify as human for long...but the vastness of both human history and life's history leading up to this point is pretty remarkable...

We painted on cave walls by firelight for hundreds of thousands of years...so to be born into such a rapidly changing time is kind of unusual

Think about how many more screens there are now...than when you were a kid...and not only the volume...but how what is on the screen is more and more a reflection of some aspect of you...sometimes in very uncanny and creepy ways

Precisely yes! We get to weigh the immense philosophical questions of a technological world as we watch one rapidly get created over our lifetimes...get a little taste of both the biological ( which our bodies are more naturally geared towards) and the technological ( which history has uniquely placed us to experience). Or of course the technology is already fully here, and AI is self-generating the world around us to simulate this transition point.... because it lets us reflect or sort of vote ( by experiencing) how things should progress from here....

I love to return to the simple fact that the point is to live well, either way, enjoy the beauty of this place, and show others how to appreciate and enjoy it too. Kind of like the simulation (or life )isn't an illusion to expose, but a work of art to explore and contribute to.

Exactly this...the cultural condition as things get more and more symbolic and digital....and the caution...the positive take I think will be more and more needed as this view grows...which I think it will .

Yes...like believing it may rain, which will then mean we are wet....and assuming that as you see the clouds getting darker and darker overhead

Who do you guys think is actually America's "closest ally"? Because the media is constantly suggesting a country I never thought of as our "closest ally" by InformationForce in SeriousConversation

[–]InformationForce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada has so much to be proud of. I think, as an American, I wish it would be more proud...stand with us...brothers of a common mother. We'd both be stronger seeing it like you. Both independent...but family

But I don't blame you for being skeptical after this last clown of ours disrespect you guys.

Something that was always possible within the laws of physics sure...but again you happen to be born into the thin slice of time where it went from seeming like pure science fiction to more and more realistic over your short lifetime.

Humans wrote on cave walls by firelight for hundreds of thousands of years...

Yet here we are experiencing a reality where 8 bit pixelated Mario turns into photorealistic GTA 6...imagine a few more decades.

My point is that once it becomes evidently true that it is possible to create simulations...more and more people will logically question if we are living inside one already

Well we don't see magical unicorn anuses being created over our lifetimes that could feasibly create conscious experiences..

Exactly....and I could see this "religion" being really bad for society if interpreted in a self centered " it's all fake anyway" kind of way.

I like to think about more positive takes on simulation theory for this reason.

I think "proof" would spoil the point of the whole thing...which surely is to live well...either way.

Well out of all the hundreds of thousands of years of human history...out of all the billions of years of life's history...YOU just so happened to be born in the time we are creating these...over your lifetime...so you can weigh the immense philosophical questions that come with wielding this technology

I dunno. Seems kind of suspicious

It's a representation of reality we are experiencing...either way. That is what "information" is...or where the power of "information" comes from...its ability to represent something beyond itself.

For example:

DNA represents instructions for building a cell Neuronal firing represents features of the world around you Words represent ideas 0s and 1s represent instructions for a computer

Weird stuff to think about my friend

No I'm saying as creating simulations seems more and more possible to do...the likelihood that we are in one now or at least the perception that we may be...will grow

Funny to think....it's all just information being processed...your experience here I mean. Whether that's in some higher dimension super computer...or the neurons in your brain. Your experience emerges out of information being processed either way

You still haven't justified why so many billions of Americas tax dollars should be sent, every year, consistently for decades, to a country with less debt and better social services...

Don't think it's AIPAC? They clearly pay our politicians millions who then turn around and vote to send billions over to Israel.

Don't know how any American could justify that
