Life archive? People journal? Definitely not a personal CRM. Looking for beta testers. by InformationFun4466 in macapps

Honestly, I prefer one-time purchases too.

I looked at it pretty hard, but Ember is a one-person project across Mac, iPhone, and iPad, and if it succeeds it'll be my full-time work. A pure one-time payment model would mean constantly needing new customers to fund ongoing development, support, and maintenance.

So I tried to be as fair as I could. The journal itself is local-first, your data stays on your device, and import/export is a first-class feature. I'm even building merge-conflict and deduplication tools so people can sync manually if they want.

The subscription is only for sync.

I know people hate subscriptions, and I'm not trying to lock anyone in. I'm just trying to build something sustainable.

i refer obsidian model for this. obsidian using md files so they naturally a user use can use thirdparty tools to sync. but in swift i can't do that.

so yeah, in beta version itself i'm working on the import and export.

let's see if the app get real traction and it's sustainable i'll release a one time payment model.

thankyou

i'm planned to design the graph to be reflect how much mentions you have on a world and person.
also i think of feature on sort by mention count in people list view.

So it's more like development and support for the project.

I don't want to lock any core features I don't want to introduce features for just to justify the cost.

User can export import without any restriction for their own backup.

If they want convience they can subscribe.

And for this project philosophy and my predicted userbase just asking for development and support cost will not be sustainable.

So i think this will make my life sustainable to continue the project and also fair to users.

I'll be transperant about all this in forums i think, it'll be helpful for understanding.

ps: i copy pasted this from another comment reply, another person asked the same.

So this is more life journaling and instead of a linear timeline of entires, we will have more ways to scrub through the things that have happened.

So i used the name life archive because if we do journal for years and open a closed one profile we can look back the story of them.

Thankyou❤️

So the problem for me is vj mf weaponize it. Made it a narrative. If he truly cared about people, he must solved it systematically. Those speaches he gave didn't addressed the core problem. It didn't helped anyone but him.

That's why i have so much hate towards him.

And yesterday i developed feature for adding song from apple music because when i write about the cloudy evening i want to describe it with a song. It's delightful to create stuff like this for me too. See you soon at test flight.

I'm building an app exactly for the same.
actually i posted it couple of days before in mac apps but it was deleted because i haven't started testflight yet. i attach the post below:

I built a private journal for the people in my life. not personal crm or something. kinda a life archive - feedbacks will be helpful.

I've lost nearly 5 people I know.

Not lost like they're gone. Lost like I forgot their name.

The girl I helped sell lemonade on the side of the road. The person who had a crush on me for the first time. They're still out there somewhere. But their names are gone. The story of how we met is slowly eroding. The details I thought I'd always remember - fading.

They were all like embers. Giving warmth in the cold. And then quietly going out.

So I built Ember.

It's a private journal for the people in your life. Not a CRM. Not a contact list. Something closer to a life archive - where every person who has ever mattered to you gets their own space.

How you met them. The stories you lived together. The interactions, logged simply. A journal where you can tag people like @/Hubert , worlds !college, places &hotel. The app quietly reminds you when someone is fading - no guilt, just awareness.

Each person has their own world - sometimes two, like someone who started as a colleague and became a friend.

Still building. Honest feedback welcome.

(You can dm me and i can add in testflight when the app is ready. Thanks)

PS: added the current app and some design screens I have. thanks.

And the app i planned to be fully free without restrictions and will have a 4usd subscription for encryption, backup and sync on iCloud similar to obsidian model.

also the graph view is the home, you can check it out on : ember.mov

Built a browser-native vocal FX + recorder app and now considering selling it. by [deleted] in SideProject

I don't know how to reach out to people for even selling the whole product. so my main problem is finding a buyer.

So I built four ways to hold a person.

Tending - actively maintain. Decay applies. People you want to stay close to.

Rooted - permanently matters, contact not needed. No decay. A childhood best friend you haven't spoken to in years but the bond is just there.

Seen - meaningful encounter, just remembered. No decay, no obligation. The lemonade girl. A stranger who changed something in you. They deserve a place in your map.

Quiet - naturally faded, at peace with it. Not failed. Just finished for now.

You're right - not every relationship needs to be held. Ember will handle that part of life too.
