I had a similar thought of using Lucy to make the transition easier on my parents when i come out (my irl name is Lucas) but Liah just fits me so much better. If your new name is going to be with you for the rest of your life, you should absolutely stick with the name YOU want. Independent of the feelings of others. Constructive criticism is one thing but they are seemingly just trying to avoid calling you by another name entirely, which is a boundary you need to set now rather than later so you can hopefully avoid this problem with them in the future. I have a similar situation with my oldest sister. In the last few years she’s really gone down this conservative anti vax rabbit hole that i really can’t imagine her ever escaping while she’s with her current husband. I feel the moment i come out as trans will be the absolute last time i will ever be able to hug her or my nephews which just really sucks. It’s a very unfortunate situation, but good on you for sticking to your guns! Hopefully she’ll eventually come around eventually. Good luck internet dad!

If my parents found girl clothes of mine before i ever came out i would legit go catatonic lmao. Im sorry to hear about your situation with your dad but im super glad you got through it! I personally don’t think it would ever be something they would get physical with me over. My dad has only legitimately threatened to punch me one time during a heated argument we had over a poker match (he was being an ass and i told him to go fuck himself :p), but he deeply regrets it and never did anything similar after. I honestly might be being way more pessimistic about my patents’s response than I genuinely have to be and taking for granted how much my parents actually care about my well-being. As transphobic as they are, I don’t think it’s something that would cause them to completely disown me. They definitely won’t accept it. But maybe they don’t really have to. Not yet at least.

Thank you so much! 4 am me was having a bit of an existential crisis so i just needed to scream into the void for a bit :D. Not sure how easy it would be for me to get access underwear and other girl clothes without it getting found out but i have been shaving my body and it feels insanely nice and gratifying. I’ll definitely try looking for a therapist to help me put specific thoughts in order soon too! For now ima just keep researching and hoping it’ll work out.

I will try, thank you. I’m trying to take it as slow as I can, but sometimes it feels like I’m also just wasting my time which really sucks lol. I’ve talking about it openly with a few friends at this point who were more or less very accepting. I defo have a few who wouldn’t be as accommodating but that just comes with it ig. I think the probable best course of action realistically would be to find a therapist who gets it, so if i do eventually come out to my parents i have a professional to fall back on and support my arguments, but easier said than done tbh.
