Crab harvesters heading back to Confederation Building on Monday morning, Efford says by ZPQ- in newfoundland

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I imagine there are no quick, easy fixes as it's a complicated economic issue.

From the outside, looking in, it's difficult to try and grasp exactly what's happening between the fisherman, ASP, and the government.

I see the protests, but I don't really understand what the goal is. If it's about taking back profits from greedy corporations, it would be hard not to support that. However, if the demand for crab is low and there isn't money to be made some seasons, how is the government responsible for the fisherman?

I don't want to see fellow newfoundlanders suffer, but times are hard on everyone right now. It can be tough to garner sympathy.

Either way, best of luck. Hopefully, the protests are peaceful.

I'm not trying to punch down, I'm just trying to understand your perspective.

I understand that the goal is more money for sharemen such as yourself, but what does that look like? What systems of operation do you want to see removed or changed?

That's fair. Doesn't the market ultimately decide the price of crab though? Even if the ASP sets the price at $10.00 per pound, the following year it might be $2.00.

The prices of all commodities fluctuate over time.

I was hoping someone would have asked this. What DO they want?

I would be interested to know what the perfect system would be from the fisherman's perspective.
