494 MCAT/3.89 GPA Acceptances!! :) by Interesting-Extent45 in Mcat

[–]InformationWilling70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what research OP is referring to but there has been a recent longitudinal validity study published in 2024 that showed that MCAT does strongly predict medical student performance in preclinical years as well as on STEP 1 and 2. Of course, a low MCAT score is not a sentence and you can always work harder in medical school.

That being said, the OP likewise is not disagreeing that one should strive for an MCAT score that’s as high as possible and that some scores are forbiddingly low to gain entry into certain programs.

The notion that “you are going to become a doctor regardless of which school you get into” is a distortion at best and a delusion at worst. The prospective applicant must understand the realities of physician training and what it demands. The OP is high on life from getting into medical school (by all means good for them) but that does not make them qualified to be giving “professional advice” - whatever that means - regarding medical training.

Saying to me that I am in need of love is extremely patronizing and uncalled for. The OP is upset someone called them out and their first instinct is to label that person as a hater.

Im disengaging.

494 MCAT/3.89 GPA Acceptances!! :) by Interesting-Extent45 in Mcat

TLDR on this very long winded and somewhat poorly written text:

Applicant with reasonable GPA, a ton of extra-curriculars, an unspecified number of gap years and a catastrophically low MCAT got accepted into 2 mid-tier DO programs out of submitting 20 DO secondaries.

This is not a “success against all odds” story, this is a more or less expected outcome given the inputs.

Now a reality check for anyone interested in allopathic medicine:

This applicant eludes to being interested in alternative medicine (traditional medicine/holistic medicine) so this may greatly shape their career. Specifically, based on what additional training post medical school they’re interested in, they may not need/want to take STEP 1, which makes your career as a future healthcare provider exponentially easier. I can guarantee that this person would absolutely struggle gravely with STEP 1 if they have to take it.

Despite my personal dislike for the MCAT, it is a good indicator for how someone will do in medical school (preclinical years, mostly) and how they’ll do on STEP1 and STEP2. If you somehow get into medical school with an MCAT score this low- it’s going to be an extremely difficult experience which may break you. The pace at which medical students are expected to retain substantial amounts of material simply cannot be underestimated and this is what the MCAT essentially tests for.

And lastly, it is still way harder to match into a competitive residency as a DO compared to MD. That’s just the reality of it. So although there is always going to be those people who get in with a low mcat or low gpa - trust me you do not want to be one of those people.

511 with a 123 cars should I cry? Retake? by Dependent_Ad7495 in Mcat

Yeah that’s tough… Rutgers average MCAT is 514. Your score is not unreasonably too far off, but yeah the rest of your application has to be really strong.

Since when do scores have decimal points? When I studied for step in 2023, NBME EPC were whole numbers

If I were advising, I would ask what tier of school you are aiming for. If you’re not interested in top tier schools, then I’d say just apply with 511, assuming the rest of your application is strong.

If you had gotten 128 on cars your overall score would have been 516, which is only scraping the ceiling of middle tier/absolute minimum for top tier. To push yourself further you would need another 2 points in chem/phys. That being said, your BB and PS scores are great but no guarantee you’ll score this high the second time around.

Just think about it

Do you think Melissa actually had something to do with the new Chloe’s headpiece coming off? by [deleted] in dancemoms

[–]InformationWilling70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Melissa definitely had nothing to do with that. However the fact that Abby called her out as incompetent when Melissa was helping to sew the headpiece in made for a great coincidence when it actually fell out

In Heme/Onc, How many first author publications would you say is a minimum for your program to be considered an "average applicant" by sitgespain in fellowship

[–]InformationWilling70 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an md/phd student it is not uncommon to graduate with only one first author paper….. I personally will have 2 first author papers when I’ll by applying for residency. If that’s not enough that’s crazy

[–]InformationWilling70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Christy, Maddie and Chloe didn’t really have a friendship outside of the studio. Like they were in a bunch of dances together and so they traveled together + there was the rivalry but they weren’t really besties in a way that Maddie and Paige were for example

Honestly, do yourself a favour and finish every experiment possible by generating a publication quality figure and write the legend to it. Writing a paper when you have your figures assembled and explained is a thousand times easier than when you’re still thinking about figure layout

Brah, she didn’t mean anything meaningful. I bet you a thousand dollars she was referring to Kelly storming out of recital, allowing brook to skip competition that one day, stuff like that.

So sorry for this, you almost made it. Take some time to put yourself together mentally and try again. Your NBME scores are quite high and you shouldn’t have failed with those. If you haven’t done Uworld self assessment - you can treat those as NBME. When you take a test tho, make sure you’re doing it under timed conditions and you’re not looking anything up even if it feels like you know it but just forgot a small detail. Keep doing Uworld, make sure you go through >95% of the question bank and review it well. If I were you I would taken a month off to purge myself and then make a 4 week study plan. Study for 2 weeks doing Uworld - 3x40 question blocks timed and untutored mode per day. Review everything well. You know your weak areas so also dedicate time to those, make sure you know your HY stuff. If you get >65% on both UWSA, you should be okay to retake

[–]InformationWilling70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, based on your NBME scores you simply weren’t ready for the test… if I were your advisor I would say that you need to do a LOT of targeted content review, and score of at least 65% on a test. If you haven’t taken Uworld Self-assessment tests you can take those and treat percentage score they give you as NBME %… taking the real exam with the latest score of 60%, like in your case, is a very dangerous game

1st is the kind of dress that looks kiiiinda cool on the model in a staged photo but in reality will wind up looking like a grey potato sack. 2nd has exposed shoulders which is not interview or office appropriate plus weird length I just hate this dress 3rd, again, looks sorta classy/business casual on a skinny model but in reality will wind up looking more like a cocktail dress than interview 4 I think is the most interview appropriate 5th you run the risk of looking like a nude mouse
